this site has been so helpful to me, not that i want anyone to struggle with the exam, it is in an odd way comforting to know it's not just me!!
i graduated in may 2006, happiest moment of my life was when my parents pinned me!!
i have had some family, personal issues that have kept me from "fully being focused" to attack this exam.
i am in need of some "motivation", i feel like my get up and go - got up and went?!?
anyone else feel this way?
i most recently sat for the boards, 1/18 and was unsuccessful.
i realized i had way too many books, they were a major distractor!! so i put just about all of my books in totes, and up in the attic!!
i currently have kaplan (on demand) and the accompanied book, exam cram, and lacharity.
i feel a lot less cluttered, was wondering if anyone else could direct me?
thank you in advance, i will not give up on my dream!!
god bless all of you,

I'm not trying to be critical but, just for the record, if you've taken the NCLEX once and not passed, you're not a GN anymore. A temporary permit becomes invalid as soon as you fail the exam.
Best wishes for your next attempt! :balloons:

Technically, I think you are being critical... appreciate your jab!

First of all Best of Luck to you!
I am also going to take NCLEX-RN board within 2 months, and I am using Saunders review book. I think thats really a helpful book. Lots of other people also have said they liked it. And you are right, lots of book before the board does not help much, only distraction.
I was honestly just trying to provide information, not criticize you. I noticed you have GN not only in your username, but also used it to sign your name at the end of your OP today, so I figured that you weren't aware of how the temporary permit and GN status work. Lots of people aren't, esp. new grads.
I apologize for giving the wrong impression, and wish you all success on your next NCLEX.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a temporary permit anymore. I'm using way to many things myself....but I'm doing it one at a time.
I have saunders that I read at night (1 chapter a night MAX)
Exam Cram Questions (did all 1250)
Kaplan free questions trainers I found online (7 trainers in progress)
LaCharity (Next project)
That's about it for now...we'll see what I get through in the next 2 weeks.
Good luck! Where did you feel you were lacking on the previous attempt?
Also, just doing Exam Cram questions alone got me over a 900 on my exit HESI...I'm not sure how much of a predictor it is for the NCLEX, but I felt very prepared for that with exam cram questions alone!

Do you feel that being out of school for so long can be a factor? If you need a good review, Hurst is a great review! It's expensive, but it is a good review of content, unlike the Kaplan that focuses on strategies (which I didn't find worked).
I think your materials are good. I found the Saunders Q&A book (orange) to be more closely formatted like the NCLEX questions over the Kaplan. Lacharity is a great resource, mostly for the priotization. I did HUrst, and about 150 questions out of Saunders, Lacharity or Exam cram a day for about 3 weeks. It's a lot but I think it exposed me to a lot of info that I'd never heard of. Also if you study/review anything, it should be infection control. For me, when in doubt, I went with the "killer" answer. In hurst, she mentions, always go with the killer answer, the answer that could kill the patient the fastest. Seems to have worked for me.
Just wanted to add, don't worry about the HESI. I don't feel it's a good predictor. I did poorly on all my HESI's. The exit HESI I only made a 784 and I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions the first time. HESI to me was all content and a lot I'd never heard of, NCLEX is applying what you know.

I truly believe that my mind was not set for the NCLEX questions. I was reading into the questions, and connecting them with a patient that I may have previously cared for... So I am really getting the jist of :
Kaplan Strategies, finding out what exactly the question is asking me - then going from that point has truly helped me to see things in such a different light.
I do believe that God has a plan for everything he does, so I shall move forward and stay positive!!
I appreciate your feedback, and I wish you the best!
We will prevail, come hell or high-water!! :)

You are on the right track by cutting down on the number of resources. Just keep at it in an organized manner. You will pass as long as you don't give up. Perhaps you can plan a very nice reward for yourself for when you do pass. Nice to have an pleasant incentive (besides a job in one's chosen career field).

I was unsuccessful this past November and am currently taking an online course on NCSBN site learningext.com. I am hoping to take in May but totally deflated.
Have you retested yet?
