wats everyone's scores looking like heading into fall 2023 and is it your first time applying?
Nursewithagoal said:I am currently a nursing student at GCC. The selection is based on lottery. If you don't get chosen the first time then they keep your file for 1 year (if I remember correctly) and include it in the next lottery pick. So you have a good chance of being picked. Most people get in during the 2nd lottery pick. Majority of my classmates were all A+ students with high TEAS score, over 85-95%. I like lottery because it gives everyone a fair shot.
There are a lot of changes going on in the college right now because they got accredited nationally and other factors.
The teachers are awesome, with 2-3 being an exception, and really want you to learn and be the best nurse you can be.
Material is based on power points and the book.
class size is between 28-30 students.
LVNs can apply to the generic program at GCC
Parking can be crazy
clinical sites : adventist, keck usc, county, glendale memorial, huntington, st. joseph, barlow
The overall cost is 8K but with financial aide and waiver you are looking at 2K with books, tuition, fees and other expenses included.
I love this school and it was the best choice, I got chosen on the second lottery pick. I applied for fall (didn't get in) and got accepted for Spring
I got Accepted to Winter/Spring 2024! im so excited. is it OK if I can connect with you ? I would like to ask some questions
If you did not get in, don't worry. you have a better chance of being accepted during the next 2 cohorts. Have them keep your file in the pool for the next 2 cohorts, they'll email you asking if you want to maintain your file in the pool every time you get a denial. some people will decline the offer closer to orientation. Only sad part about it is people take the offer, start intercession or 1st semester and drop out (always at least 5-6 students bc it's not for them or too hard), which is unfortunate for those really wanting to go through with it. And some will drop during second semester (the hardest semester)
Nursing school is hard. requires a lot of time management, isolation, self study, prioritizing, commitment and letting go of your personal life. You can work but will be sleep deprived. It's something you really have to think about and its expensive. even community college programs are going up and require a lot of out of pocket expenses and commuting. So really think about it before you commit and then drop out , because you took the opportunity from someone else .
