Hi everyone!
I just applied for the Spring 2024 ADN program at GCC. Just wanted to start this thread for anyone else applying!
Keenbear said:Hi just small talk, where does everyone live and is this your first time applying? ill start.
Hi, I live in pasadena..im a single mom and the only other program I've applied to was PCC with 80 pts and never heard back from them. this is my second time applying, thinking of applying to PCC again and calstate LA in OCT.
I live in Montclair, and it is my first time applying to ADN programs. 80 points is really great for PCC! I think they had a really competitive cohort because a lot of people who had 85+ were saying they got in, but I also think people are hearing back reallllly late too. Call or email them if you haven't already, it can be frustrating not to hear anything back, even if it's a rejection. Just knowing what happened helps to us to move forward/plan out next steps. Yes you should definitely apply to BSN programs too this Fall, I think I'm also going to try that. I'm applying to 7-8 ADN programs, I really hope I can get in somewhere... and fingers crossed somewhere close to me! I already submitted an application to RCC and GCC. I plan on applying to Chaffey, PCC, SBVC, Rio Hondo, Santa Ana. If I don't get in anywhere for Spring 2024, I'm going to apply to Citrus (They only accept applications once a year in Jan/Feb). And then I'm also going to try for BSN program at CSUs like CSULA, CSUB, CSUF, and CSUSB.

I wish I was as flexible, having two kids and being a single mom with no extra help from pasadena, only allows me to travel so far, I wish I could try for further options, but my daughters go to school in pasadena and well its so hard. I guess I should look into citrus and CSULB too.
you're right about PCC , at this point a rejection would be better than not ever receiving anything at all. they really disappointed me, with their lack of communication and really just bad timeline on things. I did call, and they gave me a really basic response, "we're still sending out notifications " but its been a week since they told me that.

You're doing amazing, it's really inspiring how much you've accomplished in your circumstance. You're going to get in somewhere, just keep going. I think you should definitely try Citrus, that's not a bad commute for you, and have you thought about ELAC? Would ELAC or any of the LA community colleges be a reasonable drive for you? Mt. Sac? Try as many schools as possible that make sense for your commute, but don't stretch yourself too thin. I would say try Citrus for sure CSULB, CSULA, Azusa Pacific, and any CC in LA that is a decent commute for you, and Mt. Sac. I feel you about PCC, it's really stressful having to wait that long without hearing back, and on top of that not getting the best responses when you do reach out. You don't want to pester but you also don't want to wait forever and have everything pass you up. Hopefully they send out all communications and finalize everything within the next week or two. Their Spring 2024 application's opening up Tuesday 08/01, right around the corner. You should definitely submit another application even if you don't hear back from them by then. Just keep going until you get in somewhere, you got it!
I would definitely try for Elac if their passing rates weren't so low, I've tried for APU but they require organic chem and another speech class I don't have and a religious class , which I really don't have time to do. LOL regular chem kicked my butt and organic chem is really not on my radar . you're so sweet thank you for all the positivity and support.

I know the pass rates for ELAC have been consistently low, but it looks like it went up for 21/22. Maybe just apply there it as a backup option? Nursing school is stressful enough, so we want that security from our school that they're going to prepare us for our boards. Have you thought about Rio Hondo? I think it's like a 25ish min drive without traffic? And saaame for APU lmao... I was thinking of applying but I'm missing O-Chem and a humanities class. Ugh. Sucks because I took an Art class a long time ago, but it isn't one of the ones that qualify for their humanities section ? Also most (if not all) of the ADN programs are going to add an ethnics studies class as a mandatory prereq, and I think BSN program requires it as well, so another thing to take if you haven't already. I decided to register for an ethnic studies class for Fall, but I just don't have the time this Fall to also take O-Chem or a humanities course in order to try for APU. And you're sooo welcome, it's the career we want, so we will get there in time, we just have to keep working toward it. I haven't thought of applying for Golden-West or any similar college yet, I want to see how things go with CC and CSUs first.
Well we will keep each other updated throughout the process... you have time to consider a few other "decently close" schools before their Spring 24 applications are due. Talk to ya! ?

Yes try if it makes sense schedule/time wise. And yes, contact your counselor and see if it applies for you because it may not apply depending on a person's calendar year. So far Chaffey and SBVC stated they will be changing their future applicant requirement to include and ethnic studies class, but that it doesn't apply to the current application cycle. They also said they think other programs are going to move toward including this requirement and that their bridge/ADN-BSN programs already include it.

You can download the pdf and edit it on your computer by filling in the blue boxes. Then, you can either sign it digitally or print it out and sign it. I guess you could also print it and fill it out but they suggested filling it in digitally during the info session.

Hello, Ayo! I'm not 100% sure, but I *THINK* as long as you have your prerequisites done and you have your international transcripts evaluated, and any relevant documentation, then I think they do. Sorry I didn't have a clear answer for you. They do ask for a SSN or ITIN. I found this on their website
"FOREIGN NURSE GRADUATE
Applications available: TBA
This application is for students who completed their nursing education outside of the United States and were advised by the California Board of Registered Nursing that they will need to take individual courses to be eligible for RN licensure."
And if you haven't already, read through this... I think as long as you meet these requirements, you should be eligible to apply. https://www.glendale.edu/academics/academic-divisions/health-sciences-division/nursing/application
