Hello,
I was wondering who else is going to be applying to the Gayle Greve Hunt SON- ABSN Spring 2019.
Yes! I took my HESI back in June and I submitted my nursingcas application on the 26th and my EPTECH app I submitted yesterday! The HESI wasn't all that bad in my opinion. Don't overthink it!! I scored an 87 and thought about retaking it but my advisor said not to because the admissions committee takes into consideration how many times you took it. I feel confident but then again I don't lol. I just finished microbiology and only have patho and stats left to take over the fall. My science gpa is a 3.75 and overall is a 3.55. I'm a medical assistant and have experience in urgent care and memory care but I haven't worked in a while since I've been in school full time so that makes me nervous.
An 87 is a pretty great score. I actually don't have the brightest GPA, but I have tons of volunteer experience at Hospitals and even community enrichment. I volunteered with my church and have over 500 hours of community service. I hope that can make up for my poor GPA as I have a 3.1 right now. :-( I mean as far as I'm concerned, your stats are so good so don't worry! I also have received two scholarships if that means anything haha. I hope the HESI isn't as bad, but from what I heard, it's been pretty easy. I've been studying for two solid months. I'm just more worried about the vocabulary section.
Volunteer experience is really good! I currently volunteer as a treasurer on fort bliss but idk if that's worth anything lol! I wanted to volunteer at a hospital but I really just don't have time. I took 2 summer minimester classes so I was in class Monday-Friday. I've been looking for a job here but for some reason, places in El Paso aren't too keen on medical assistants it seems lol. They like CNAs more. The vocab section wasn't difficult I promise!
I took two Maymester courses as well haha. People thought I was insane, but it wasn't that bad! Volunteering at the hospital wasn't as enriching as I would have hoped, but it was plenty of fun. Working as a Medical Assistant, in my opinion, is pretty great. It is true, I've heard that it's rather tough to get a job as a Medical Assistant here in El Paso. You're totally set for the program! :)
