Getting a "C" is not the end of the world.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have seen a few posts about getting C's in pre-req courses. It's not the end of the world.

I got a C in my A&P 2 class. I thought my I blew my shot at nursing school. I was upset and depressed. I was wasting time worrying about a grade that I could not change.

AN helped me see that there was still hope and a C will not always ruin you.

You know what? I got into nursing school with that C!

Grades are important, but don't beat yourself up repeatedly because you got a C.

Work harder next time.

Remember, a C is a passing grade (just don't make it a habit if you can help it).

DON'T GIVE UP! :D

I'm attending an expensive private university in September, and they have very high standards when it comes to admitting students. I agree, I think there is a difference between private not-for-profit schools (the kind I'm attending) and private for-profit schools. I believe the kind Stephalump is referring to is the latter, but I could be wrong. And maybe there are private not-for-profit schools that work like that, too...I only know my own experience.

I attend a private not-for-profit Catholic college. And while my tuition is expensive in comparison to the community colleges, it is the cheapest tuition of the other not-for-profit private colleges in the surrounding area.

That's primarily what I was talking about, although I do know of some not-for-profit schools that are easier to get into. I actually did my undergrad at one of the largest Baptist universities in the country, and while entry wasn't all that difficult (too expensive and religious tto be all that competitive), it was extremely tough to get into the clinical portion of the nursing program. However, in any field, including law and medicine, if you got the bucks but not the grades, you can get an edge with private schools.

Not EVERY private school, lest I offend someone, but generally speaking, the applicant pool is smaller. Especially in for-profit institutions where the education might also be questionable.

How is it inaccurate? The OP just demonstrated it. Perhaps it isn't true for your school, but it's reality in a lot of cases. Especially in for-profit schools like the poster above me said.
I have a 3.76 gpa. I got literally ONE C and I wanted to jump off a bridge bc I thought my nursing dreams were shattered. In FL, many state universities would've turned me away bc of that one C. I already have a degree so I'm sure that helped my chances when I got accepted. My school doesn't nessesarily have lower standards, just different ones. they weigh the essay, TEAS, gpa, and job exp equally. Many schools go STRICTLY BY GPA. Mine doesn't. So, that's why I say don't be quick to have an emotional breakdown if you get ONE C. It may not always mean its over.

My point wasn't that you or your school are somehow subpar, just that most school's standards are determined by the applicant pool. The more people who apply, the more 4.0s you have to contend with. So your GPA is great, but not compared to the other 10 million Fl applicants.

But like I said, private universities usually have a smaller pool to pick from, so your GPA and other qualifications could have put you toward the top.

But aside from that, I get your point. There are a million schools nowadays with a million different different things they look at to determine acceptance. Some schools only look at your highest Prereq grades, so retaking classes can save you. Some place more importance on entrance testing, some just want your money, some just care about your overall GPA instead of individual science grades. It just takes a little research and thinking outside the box!

And I'm glad you got your acceptance!

No biggie. I wasnt put off by your comment. What you said is true in many cases. Prospective Nursing students just have to get in where they fit in.Thank you!
