There are a couple of people in my classes who have a form that has to be signed every now and then to prove that they are attending. I assumed that it was some kind of financial aid, but one of them told me today that not only does he get his tuition, fees, books, and uniforms paid for, but he also gets paid money to go to school. Does anyone knows what the name of this program could be? I am just curious, and I didn't want to pry any more than I already had. Thanks.

Is he in the armed forces? If not it would sound too good to be true!

The only non military thing close to this I've seen is job retraining if you've been working somewhere forever and they decided to up and move to China because it's cheaper, thus laying you off.
He was in the armed forces, but he said his Army money was different. He mentioned that he would like to get a part time job, but then he would lose this money. I asked some questions, and he didn't really answer them so I didn't want to be too nosy.
He is childless and ex-Army. The other girl has a child and is non-military. The only things that I know they have in common is that they are in their early 20s and are minorities.

Workforce One and South Florida both pay for 2ys of schooling as long as the "major" or "trade" leads you to a career; not a job. Check out their website for a list a trades and majors including school providers. There is also one in West Palm just can't remember the name. If you live outside of Florida you may want to search for a local government agency that offers job placement to see if they have this available.

I have a scholarship from the workforce commission. They pay for my tuition, books, supplies, scrubs, gas - anything school related. It does require me to have an attendance sheet signed weekly.
But no stipend for me. That would ice the cake!

We had that type of program up here in Maine when some of the paper plants closed down a few years ago. It was a deal that the union struck with the plants and the state so the employees could receive job training.
