Getting into North Hennipen's nursing program

Published

Just wondering if anyone had been accepted into North Hennepin's RN program and the grades you achieved on your generals? I know its extremely competitive, but I've been hearing that students with 4.0's and all requirements complete have been turned away :( is the LPN-RN program easier to get into? thanks for any feedback!

I know of several people that applied and made the program with A's and B's. Some only had 3 of the 4 science requirements done and still made it in. I will be applying next January and will have everything done when I do.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Good Luck.

Matt

I am graduating from North Hennepin this month, and was worried about getting in as well, even though I had everything done and a high GPA. I know of people who got accepted into my class who didn't have all their generals done, and many people got mostly Bs (and even a C or two) in their sciences. I think it just depends on the pool of applicants. Some years it's more competitive than others. As for LPN-RN mobility programs, I have heard from others that it's becoming more difficult to get into those because there are more people doing the LPN-RN route (I don't know for sure if this is the case). There were about 8 mobilists who joined my 2nd-year class this past fall, but I don't know how many applied. Having everything done when you apply next year should help you, and of course the higher your GPA, the better. Good luck! It's a great program.

My experience was similar to sam1998. The only thing I would add is that I was very deliberate about being a student of record there when I applied for the nursing program. I had done some of my pre-reqs elsewhere, and had several other credits transferred in, so I enrolled in a nutrition course and the final science pre-req the semester that I needed to apply for nursing school. HTH!

I'm just finishing up NHCC night/weekend program this week. I had good grades going in, but had all my pre-reqs done before applying. I know for a fact that not everyone had a 4.0 going in, but it does help. It also helps to have them all completed and I think you get priority if you take classes there. I did all my pre-reqs at another community college and still got in. It is competitive but probably varies year to year. I can't picture a 4.0 student with all pre-reqs done being turned away. I don't know anything about the LPN route!

Hi! I have been accepted for the Fall 08 start class. i did have a 4.0. I do know that this year was the most competitive ever. I know someone who had a's and 1 b in science and barely made the cut. Its crazy.....Good luck with everything and stick with it!

I just got in for Fall 2011 acceptance

I had a friend who just got into the night and weekend program who had 1 C in the Biology, and a C in English and also got in. The rest of her grades were A's.
