Getting on a Military base

Published

I went to Scott AFB with my recruiter to get some uniform stuff and order my ACU name tags. My name tags are in and I need to pick them up, is it correct that I just need my drivers license as a form of ID to get on post? When I went with my recruiter I didn't have to show an ID and I won't likely get my military ID until I get to BOLC. Thanks

Completely agree it is "base dependant". Ft Lewis, I needed a "day pass" b/c I didn't have a dod sticker on my car at that time (military ID wasn't good enough)....I guess b/c it is an armarment?

No, it's because the Army's weird like that. :) LOL. They were doing that over at Ft Sam for a while after the Air Force stopped issuing stickers - and then they realized there was NO WAY the guys in their gate shacks could keep up with all the AF retirees that go to BAMC...so they wised up and stopped.

The Navy was the same way.

In a way the stickers were equally stupid - you'd get reports of them being stolen all the time. There was no way of knowing when you waved a car on base if the sticker was truly with the proper car or not. Rare but it did happen.
