getting licensed in multiple states (lpn)

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi

I have ALWAYS wanted to travel, after much time searching without success for a agency that offer this to LPN's i have given up. I have come up with my own solution at least i beleive it will work. I plan on leaving September 2012 and set out on lets call it a "extended roadtrip" i have plenty of friends and family around the country(north america) and plan stopping and working for a couple of weeks/months to be able to continue on with my traveling. I know this all might sound crazy but carpe diem while i can. I'm trying to figure out if there is any agencies out there that i would be able to sign up with that are across the country or a large region of the country? Thanks in advance

Kel

I am now living in Utah from California. I have a LVN license in California and want to be able to work in Utah. I am going to apply for a transfer by endorsement. Do i have to prove permanent residency here in Utah, as in get a driver's license here in utah? The reason i say that is because i was looking at the NLC website and somewhere it says to be eligible.... i have to prove permanent residency in utah. Is that only if intend to use my license in other compact states including Utah? I am here for school and just want to be able to work as a LPN here for the period i am going to school here. I do not look to work in the compact states. How does this actually work. Can i still work here in Utah as a LPN without having to switch my permanent residency here in this state? I have looked at some information online but i was unclear.

If you are not a permanent resident of Utah then you will be issued a single state LPN license. The only issue would be is if you attained a CA LVN alternate method instead of graduating practical nursing school. An LVN license attained by alternate methods is not endorseable to other states.

My situation is a little different. So i went to an accredited LVN (CA its LVN) school. Well i completed all the classes from that school and did not "graduate" because i did not pay the tuition. So at the end after a couple months, they "kicked" me out of the school. They released my transcripts once i paid the remaining fees. I was able to sit for the NCLEX-PN by method #3: equivalent education. And when i went to take the boards it was listed as "RN failure taking PN." So how will this effect me because when i transfer my license and send my license along with my transcripts form the accredited school, will they still consider it a license by endorsement?

You are not eligible for licensing in Utah by endorsement as you did not officially graduate nursing school. Like the other NLC states there is no license by equivalency like there is in CA. You must have graduated and received a diploma or degree from a school of practical/vocational nursing.

CA BVNPT is pretty clear that with the exception of certain states that accept verified military equivalent training as an LPN those that complete method 3 are ineligible for license by endorsement to other states. Many members who are LVN by method 3 have been denied in TX, UT, IL, IN, PA, NJ and other states that laws only permit licensing of graduates of PN schools.

Im sorry. Is there any way since you paid the fees your former school would issue a certification of graduation? That diploma would likely give you eligibility for an endorsed license even though you were initially licensed by method 3.

Well thats funny that you say that, i was wondering the same thing. On my transcripts it just says "dismissed due to non payment," but all the courses are there. I was afraid of that. I wrote to board of utah, and hopefully they can give me an answer versus me applying and wasting $100 to find out that i am not eligible. I am currently in an accredited RN, BSN program which i worked for outside of LVN/LPN attainment. So that degree is not an issue. I am going to give them a call tomorrow, Monday, to see what i can do about it. I dont understand this whole transferring struggles everyone is going through! i mean the questions on the NCLEX-PN is no more difficult or easier. If its a national exam we all have to take to practice so its just frustrating. Im not too worried about it being that i am in a nursing program, but i wanted to practice for experience and to help me better in the program.
