Getting license w/ unpaid medical bills?

Published

I have a medical bill (government facility) I have not been able to pay and some parking tickets. I'm going to try sorting it out now that Im working. Will the CA. board deny my LVN license because of this? Im half way done with LVN school and I'm panicking. What should I do?

The BVNPT in CA is pretty tough. I doubt they'd care about the Dr's bills although an employer might but your parking tickets could be an issue. I agree with the comment above & I suggest you get it taken care of now before you graduate. You don't want to delay your license any longer than you need too. Good luck!

In state of PA, my daughter actually went to jail for unpaid traffic fine. It was for $107. She went through a red light. They will put you in jail for ignored traffic tickets in our state. Try to set up a payment plan.

Never heard of not getting a liscense because of unpaid medical bills. You need good credit to be a Nurse? Ironic isnt it? If you had a job and could afford to pay your bills you might not be a nursing student to begin with.

a requirement of the BVNPT is a background and a fingerprint check through DOJ. your unpaid tickets may show up on that because you are in contempt.

if I'm not mistaken, parking violations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, and not the driver. if you are the registered owner, this could result in severe sanctions against you when it comes time to register the vehicle. impounding the car and increased fines to name a couple.

with the quick and efficient sharing of information and records of the CA justice system/counties/DMV/DOJ/etc., I'd be concerned about this.

as for your credit, many employers do credit checks on prospective employees - for many reasons. but one of the things they want to know is how financially responsible a candidate is.

take care of your business sooner rather than later. you will rest better in the end. one guy in my class still hasn't been able to take boards b'cuz of some juvenile indiscretion that has held up his application and is being investigated by bvnpt - and it's been 9 mos since we got out of school!
