getting a jump on school

Published

I am going to start school in May and I have already learned the 206 bones and wanted to start on the mucles. I have read there are 700 how many does an LPN need to know. I hope its not all.... I am an older student who hasn't been to school in years and must still work. So I am trying to learn as much as I can before I start fulltime.

Nursing school isn't only about memorizing facts.....LOTS to do with critical thinking. Not sure if there is any way to really be prepared for nursing school!

Good luck!

Just like the others said, memorization will get you no where in nursing school. It is all about taking what you know an applying it in a given situation.

Don't waste you time learning all the muscles, what you will need to know is how those muscles respond to certain situations.

start by taking a look at the fundamentals of nursing! that will give you a base!

that kinda stuff helps in A&P. You may need to know a few of the muscles you can give an IM injection in.

If I were you I'd get a Dosage Calculations book and learn how to do all the calculations before I start the program. That way you'll have a head start on that. Also, you may want to call the Nursing school and ask them what MedSurg book they use, or ask a current student. Go on amazon and buy that and go through what you think is important. Learn pulses, assessments, cardiov sys, resp sys, etc... You may even be able to call the school and get a copy of the syllabus early and see what they expect of you that first semester :)
