Getting an interview as a new graduate

Hi everyone:

I am a new graduate nurse that just moved to the Albuquerque area and I hold a license in a compact state. Does anyone have any advice on finding employment as a new graduate nurse? So far, I have mainly interacted with the career websites and sent email to nurse recruiters when I could find contact info. What do you think the response will be to trying to communicate directly with the hiring managers? Would a visit to HR be a good or bad idea? Also, is there any advice on getting my application past the initial screening? So far, I have not been able to get an interview.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Help would be much appreciated...

I am a new graduate nurse with my RN-BSN, who has been trying to get work in Albuquerque for 3 months now. I had one interview but was ousted by someone with more experience. The only way I got the interview was by badgering everyone in the hospital until eventually my resume ended up in the hands of the right person. I would just say keep at it, and make your presence known so that if anything does come up you'll be the first person they think of.

I feel your frustration; I graduated this year and moved from California but I haven't had any luck with getting an interview here. I'm not sure who screens the applicants...I'm thinking the nurse recruiters do and if so is it worth sending a follow up letter to let them know you are still interested??? I would prefer sending the letter to the unit manager but again I don't know what the process is. In the meantime, I've been hearing over and over to volunteer to show that I am doing SOMETHING with my time and perhaps other courses such as certifications to improve my chances. The biggest problem that we face and do not have much control over is that it is more expensive to train a new grad than to update an experienced nurse with at least the basic knowledge. GOOD LUCK!
