Okay.. so I have only been an LPN since December 3rd, but I have sent out numerous resumes and nada, zelch, zero (to quote Monster Garage) has been the interest. This is highly discouraging. Last year this time, nursing homes were begging for LPNs and when I finally get out into the market I can't find squat. I really want to work during my last semester before I get my RN for the hands on, but what's a girl supposed to do? Beg? I plan on calling around starting Monday to a couple of LTC facilities. I am willing to work weekends. My dh just thinks that I sent out my info. to late or rather just before the holidays when PRN staffing is greatly needed. BUT I believe that my lack of experience and hands on is a major contributing factor.
I have also sent my resume` in to a nurse staffing agency (two to be exact) and nothing. Do agencies usually prefer more experience? Like every other job it seems.. how are you supposed to get experience if no one is willing to take a chance with you?
Just frustrated. Sorry for the vent.
Happy Holidays to all!

Most agencies want 1 year experience before they will hire you.
Have you tried a LTC that has a sub-acute/rehab unit?

I have never heard of this in my area. Most places are so short staffed they will take any time you can offer. Agencies in this area actully prefer two years experience. I would suggest LTC.

i know how you feel i spent the majority of nursing school looking for a job, all i kept getting was "you need to be working as an lpn for at least a year" some 2 years. Then i was told to get my cna license to work as a nurse tech, so i did that in feb of last year and still nothing i graduated in july of 2004 and got my license in january and i had been looking since then, finally i got a job just yesterday as a nurse on the ventilator unit, at a small hospital in my area....never even knew this hospital existed. Just keep looking, pray about it and the right job will come along when u least expect it....Good Luck :)

Really depends on where you live. Long story short, went from full time work, hubby transfered to BC. Couldn't find a job in our area to save my life and I was willing to drive 150km each way. He's still in BC, I went back to Alberta and found a job within the week...

I graduated in June 2004, and start my new LPN job monday. I was having the same probs as you, no experience as a nurse, and i looked EVERYWHERE!!!! I almost gave up, but the 1st application i put in for a waitressing job, an LTC facility called and hired me. Don't give up, it will happen!!!

Make an appointment to see Humans Resources........ask them point blank......am I a potential hire and if not why?
Sophie, if your posting was directed to me, I know why I wasn't hired out here.
1. Government cut backs last year. Staff laid off have to be recalled before new staff are hired.
2. My experience was in areas that LPN's don't work in, in this province. If all your experience was in Acute care, how would you feel being told that you might be eligible for an aides job in a couple of months.
My only regret is I lost my seniority by moving to the westcoast (all contract related). At least I got to regain my pay level when I started working again.
Husband requested and got transfer, so he'll be out of there in six months.
Just because you can't find a job doesn't mean you have black marks against your name. You have to consider how many people are after the same job, is it a union site, and finally they will always hire someone with local references over someone who has references from 1000 miles away...
