Life care centers of America?

  1. There seems to be a lot of nursing homes called Life Care center of whatever town you live in. The ones here in my town do not have a very good reputation. Please give me your opinion of the life care centers you are aware of. I am wondering if there are any good ones? Thanks:spin:

Life Care Centers are a national 'chain' of Long Term Care facililties. They have a web page. They aspire to a certain standard, but are only as good as the people who work for them.

Just to share my experience: My grandma was in a Life Care Center, and I got to know the staff there- I visited almost every evening after work & wkends. I was impressed by the caring they showed my grandma. I never saw anything but genuine care & concern by the staff- from aides to administration!! I was surprised, b/c having heard things I had formed a poor opinion of these places. I really believe it takes a VERY special person to care for these elderly people-- what's more, they really seemed to ENJOY doing it!! They had activities too- they had a ladies discussion group, for the more lucid residents- and my grandma eagerly participated & looked forward to the weekly meetings; they also had one for the men. A couple of days/mo a local farm brought in baby animals- pigs, puppies, kittens, birds- for the residents to hold and pet---they wrapped them up in little blankets so they wouldn't scratch- it was priceless! There were other activities too. The nurses were very helpful and always kept us informed of changes in her condition. I was expecting the worst from them b/c of the rumors I'd believed, and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of care she rec'd.

Thanks all.:spin: I'm glad to hear there are some good life care centers too. Yes, it really does depend on the folks who are working at the center. My mother has alzheimer's and I pray that I can keep her home till she dies. However, if she were to become violent and uncontrollable, I would probably have to put her in a nursing home.

There's one in Kansas City and the night staffing is 1 RN to 40 patients
    on skilled nursing.
I wonder if that's even legal in Kansas. If anyone has the answer, please
It's sister facility in Granview, Missouri has a much better reputation.
