Kennesaw State BSN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello,

is there anyone out there that has applied for KSU's BSN program for Fall 2012? I know it is really early and the deadline isn't until Jan. 31, 2012, but just wanted to see if anyone will be playing the waiting game with me this early. I actually applied for the Spring 2012, but got wait-listed. I hope I get in, but the reality is that everyone I've heard of that was in my same situation didn't get in. I'll just give KSU one more try.

Hello all,

I am finishing my pre-reqs at GSU and wanted to know if KSU has a statistics sheet on the number of applicants, GPA's and TEAS scores. The average is 3.8 and a 88 for both accel, and Trad at GSU for the nursing program. Its tough out there everyone is trying to get into a nursing program and the spots are so limited.... only 72 out of 344 REVIEWED applications :(. Anyways I am trying to see other schools out there since I am new to Georgia! THANKS

Nope....KSU doesn't have anything like that. Also, you call F and ask several times you'll get a different answer every time. Half the time it doesn't even seem like they go off of the information in the 5 areas alone. I know 4.0 (TEAS in 90s) students that have never received an interview letter, and I know 3.0 students (TEAS in 80s) that are in the program.

Just to give you all an idea from the inside... :)

I started this Fall (August 2011), and there were over 900 applications for trad/accelerated combined. There were approximately 80 trad and 40 accelerated accepted into our class. Accelerated classes are no longer on the Rome/Jasper campuses. All classes will be at KSU. Also FYI - Traditional students are no longer allowed to take summer classes, only accelerated students.

If you are looking for interview questions, I found a list on this site back when I applied. I prepared an answer for every single question listed and there was only 1 question that they asked that wasn't on the list. However, since I'd prepared all of these answers, I already had answers that I could adapt to the question they asked that wasn't on the list. So, my point is go through this list and prepare answers. Also, do the mock interview. You'll do great!

•They ask about cheating, care, organization, integrity etc...

•The interview is centered around what they believe to be important qualities to a nurse: leadership, customer service oriented, compassion, ethics, problem-solving, etc...

1.Why have you chosen nursing, what lead to here?

2.What experience do you have in the medical field, if any?

3.Name an ethical situation you have been in and how you handled it.

4.Name a situation that influenced a change in your personal morals.

5.Describe a time when you showed compassion.

6.Tell me about a time when you had to make a difficult decision.

7.Tell me a situation where you showed integrity.

8.Tell me a situation where you had to be flexible.

9.Tell me a situation where you showed good decision making.

10.Tell us about a time you had a difficult patient/customer and how you resolved it.

11.What are your strengths and weaknesses?

12.How do you time manage?

13.Tell us about a time when you made a mistake.

14.Tell us about a time you showed leadership.

15.Why do you feel you would be a good nurse?

16.Nursing school is hard, how do you know you are prepared to be a nurse?

17.Tell me about yourself (Relate this to WHY you are here, interviewing for KSU nursing, etc)

18.Why have you chosen KSU?

19.Tell me a time when you were faced with a difficult situation and how you handled it.

20.Tell me about a time when a coworker was not pulling his/her weight on your team.

21.What would make us pick you over someone else for this opportunity?

22.What do you think makes a good nurse?

•Have a few questions prepared to ask them at the end!

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend getting involved in your Student Nurses Association. As pre-nursing students, you are already eligible to get involved and be part of the organization. Joining the National Student Nurses Association is only $35/year, has numerous benefits and includes membership at the state level as well (GANS - Georgia Association of Nursing Students). Who knows...maybe getting involved will help differentiate you from other candidates. It is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills and will look great on your resume. You will definitely need to do things to differentiate yourself when you are looking for a job after graduation. Everyone that is admitted to the program is smart, but you'll need more than that to land a job post-graduation. So, please...get involved!

Hey! I'm new here and just stumbled across this thread. I won't be applying for a few more semesters, at LEAST!

As for asking them questions after the interview though, what exactly are they looking for? I have always had a particularly hard time with that on job interviews and I wouldn't want to mess it up for something as important as nursing school.

I asked them what brought them to nursing, what brought them to be an educator and what has been the most rewarding part of their career in nursing. :)

For those you that just can't wait: Littmann Stethoscopes are 20% off right now on allheart.com! And engraving is 10.99 for a limited time! Littmann stethoscopes are the most popular by far within the nursing program. So, I wanted to let you all know. :)

Hey all! I am applying for the 2012 Fall Accelerated program. I just took the TEAS today and am applying after this semester is over. I can't wait! Anyone else applying for that program?

@andrea0220: welcome! I'm applying to that program as well.....how was the TEAS exam? I am scheduled for it next month---how much did you study for it? Was the science section doable and fair?

Hi danceluver! The science section wasn't terrible, but it was hard. I did the two practice assessments through the ati website, and bought the study guide also. I only studied the science section for an hour or so a day for the past week. I ended up with an 84% total score, and did the worst in the science section. But, also know that I have only completed Chem 1....haven't done any other sciences, so I think if you've done more than just one chem class (lol) it shouldn't be too bad! Good luck!

@andrea0220-thank you! Heard there was a lot of chem so i am brushing up on that now--hope to meet you during interviews early next year! have you already finished your application to the school? I wish i could afford the two practice assessments through the website, but i do have the book so that is helping :)

I bought the study guide, which has two practice tests in it. I studied the ENTIRE study guide, word for word, did all of the end of section problems/questions and took both of the practice tests in the study guide. I made a 91 (which was 99th percentile). So, I would STRONGLY recommend going through the study guide very thoroughly. Even with the 91, I did the worst on science. If you have any old science books from previous courses, I would look at the major topics discussed in the study guide and review those topics in your old textbooks. You'll need to remember ALOT of A&P when you take Pathophysiology during your first semester anyway. So, this will help you in more than one way. Hope that helps. Good luck!
