Georgia Highlands College Waiting Game!

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hopefully, we are getting close to hearing something. I wanted to start a new thread and see if anyone wanted to play the waiting game for fall ADN Program. We've been waiting since April 1st and it's about time we heard something.:anbd:

If I knew someone with a magic wand, I would get them to wave it!!! Trust me!! I just wonder why they are taking so long?????? They have to know by now.

Stardan2, I went to North Cobb High School. How about you? ...Also, Hopeformelissa is 1160 really considered competitive? Maybe, I calculated my score wrong b/c I am short a nutrition course and my score was almost 1500. What does the score go to? I have made 3 b's, and the rest a's.

Specializes in CNA- many years ago.

dallas....

i guess i should've expounded on that a bit more. i was told by the nursing department when i turned in my application that "last fall the lowest admission score admitted to the program was an 11 something" . i believe it was 1160. that number probably seems low because most people applying are still in the middle of taking classes, rather than being completely finished with the prereqs. so, the more classes you actually have completed, the higher your admission score will be. (i'm not sure what the highest admission score possible would be. i guess if you had a perfect sat score, i imagine it could be a pretty high number.)

but in light of the fact that we have been told that we would have the acceptance letters way before now, i am beginning to be leary of anything that i have been told by the nursing department!

i'm with ya'll though......they have to know by now who is getting in and who is not.

see, there i go again, with one of my impatient vents. lol

Thanks for your clarification on that. My SAT scores were lousy. I took them many years ago and although they are higher than the min. accepted there is still room for improvement. This Thursday I have to take the TEAS test, which, I am worried about. I imagine that it is pretty similiar to SAT's. I bought a book called "Algebra for Idiots" to refresh myself on my Math. :lol_hitti I guess you can probably figure out that Algebra was one of my B grades. This waiting game has got me experiencing bouts of over-analysis of my admission score and application. I totally hear you on your last comment about the nursing dept. I don't know what to believe. This guessing game seems familiar because I have experienced it w/ Chatt Tech. They are beginning a ADN program also. They have flipped-flopped on program start dates and everything. It was originally going to start fall 2009, now winter 2010.

I went to PCHS....was curious since you live in dallas. My confusion on the worksheet is will they choose the highest grade in certain areas? For example, my college algebra score is a C but my precalculus grade is an A. I was told by the nursing advisor that they would...but, I don't know??? I am not sure if I can trust that....but I sure hope so. If they accept the highest grade in the math, my worksheet score is in the late 1500s. Since I have a degree, I added 1000...hope that's correct. I wish the nursing department would tell you what they calculated as our score.

Yeah, I live about 1 mile from Paulding High, but never attended there. I do love this area. I certainly would have preferred to go to school in this area over where I did attend.....About the admission score, your 3 sciences(Anat 1, Anat 2, & Micro) are 40% + your nine other pre-req's + 40% + 20% for your SAT's= admin score. If you have a bachelor degree you are exempt from SAT's & can replace that score w/ a 1000. I'm not sure about the pre-cal and algebra grade. I do recall seeing on the worksheet an area where two grades were avg together. I think it was political science and economics maybe in substitution for Amer gov't? Not sure about that....What is your previous degree in?

I have a degree in Chemistry. On the worksheet, american history and political science are averaged together.

I do love the Paulding area as well. Are you excited about the new hospital coming? I work at Wellstar Paulding and we are so excited about it!!!

That's going to be a great combination for you, a bachelors in Chemistry and then in nursing. You go girl! About the new hospital, I am super excited about it. I have been following every article that comes out about it in the paper. It is going to be really something once it is completed. Any idea about the estimated completion date? I keep hearing various rumors about the project. I heard that construction was temporarily halted. Never heard why. Do you know what is going on with it.

Last I heard it would be finished by July 2013. If I hear anything new, I will let you know.

I saw where you have not taken a nutrition class. Just a FYI....ONLY take the online class!!! It is SO easy!! I took Mr Harnden and he is great!! The only problem with his class is the final...it counts 50%!!!

I am planning on taking the nutrition class as soon as I have an opportunity and thank you for the info. I will write it down. Right now I am finishing up two online classes at Chatt Tech. I am taking Sociology and Psy 1 again. I made a B when I took it at Kennesaw 8yrs ago. Chatt doesn't offer nutrition and so I will have to take it at Highlands. I am still trying to keep my options open. So I am taking different classes for different programs and it's been a real challenge to keep up with. I have my fingers crossed for highlands but if it doesn't work out, I am going to stay at Chatt. and wait on there Jan start program.

How do you like the Wellstar Paulding Hospital? The new hospital is rumored to mammoth the existing building, right? I read an article about a year ago about some of the permits that the new hospital was seeking to obtain, something like, 7 levels, & 250 beds.

All I know for sure is that they are going to start with 100-150 beds. EVERYONE here wants them to open an OB/GYN but they said that it is possible in the future but not right now. They have not told us much more than that. We have a town hall meeting in the middle of June. I will see if I can get more out of the administrators.

I LOVE Paulding hospital!!! I have been working at Paulding for about 5years and worked at Kennestone for 5 years. Since I live in Rockmart, it's an easy drive.
