Georgia Highlands Fall 2013

U.S.A. Georgia

Starting a new thread for any Georgia Highland applicants for the Fall 2013 nursing program. It's been a long road getting to this point - waiting to find out if IN for Fall 2013

I calculated my score to be 1135 and that is if they received my micro grade in time. Otherwise I'll have to try again in the spring if one of my other schools doesn't come through. I don't like to wait!!

Wow 1135 is a great score. Mine is only 1054 :(

They only had about half of the scores entered the other day when I had the meeting. I figure it will be probably be a couple of weeks before letters are sent out but I didn't ask. Maybe they will be sent out before that but she had so much going on I don't know how she does it all!

ok, thanks for the info; I promised to not get antsy before mid-June luckily...lol

So has anyone started with the calls or emails to the nursing department asking when letters will be sent out? Just wondering.

Hi everyone! I've also applied for the fall semester. I was feeling okay about my chances of getting in until I read there were 300 applicants for only 80 positions. I thought they usually accepted 100 in the fall? I also wonder if in previous years if there were around 300 applicants or if there was an increase in applicants this go around?

I didn't even think to ask if there is always around the same number of applicants each year; I wish I would have asked that. I would have never guessed that 300 people applied for the program. I had always heard that they accepted around 100 students in the Fall also but she said 80. I mean she was taking the applications and putting in the numbers right in front of me, I actually had to sit and wait for her to finish one so we could have our meeting so I know she knows what shes talking about. No... I wasn't close enough to see any names or any scores she just showed me mine so please no one think that. She was a real nice lady and answered all my questions, and even though it was obvious she was extremely busy she didn't rush me at all.

Just watched the video by Ms. Frazier on the GHC nursing page; it seems to have been made in 2012. She states there are usually 300-400 applications each year, and also gives some reality tips on what your scores need to be to be accepted. For example, she quotes the lowest SAT score accepted - combined reading and math portions-for Fall 2011 acceptance was 940. Check it out if you haven't viewed it; most of the info we already know and have achieved but good info in the video. :)

Rcha1152 - which advisor gave you your score? Did she calculate it out in front of you or had yours already been calculated & she just pulled it up?

Mine had already been put into the system but she pulled it up with my transcripts and we went over it together. She calculated and recalculated to go over any options I had of making my worksheet score higher. She was really helpful. It was Mrs. Cozby at Heritage Hall.

I already knew my score because I totaled it up on the worksheet before I ever turned my application in back in March.

Sure we all could use a little distraction from waiting at this point!

What are some of the things everyone is doing this summer as far as nursing program prep?

Advance reading, math skills brush-up, etc?

I'm working my way through a clinical calculations textbook and select reading of a Nursing Fundamentals textbook (older version I have on hand), plus ordered "Mosby's Tour Guide to Nursing School: A Student's Road to Survival" book.

Please don't get the wrong idea and think this is like an all day/everyday thing...lol...this summer off from school for me is about destressing and relaxing!
