Starting a new thread for any Georgia Highland applicants for the Fall 2013 nursing program. It's been a long road getting to this point - waiting to find out if IN for Fall 2013
It's my first time applying. @Rchs1152....the SAT was killer....much easier the 1st time I took it in high school (many moons ago). They couldn't/wouldn't recenter my old score so had to retake in February....sweated that one! Then took the TEAS in March, on top of 12 hours this semester. BIG sigh of relief when done...and enjoying the summer off!
I took the SAT last year and did not do well at all on my math. It had been a while since I took college algebra and didn't study before hand..stupid me..so I ended up with a low score in math. Other than taking my SAT and TEAS over I don't know what else I could do to improve my worksheet score; I have mostly all A's and a few B's in my classes. I just wish I could stop worrying about my chances of getting into the program but every day that goes by I worry a little bit more!
Hey svckxb01!
My first semester was great! It's a lot of work and you don't want to procrastinate. I received my acceptance letter around the middle of June which came in a big packet. It had information on orientation and the medical documents and requirements you will need to submit before they let you register for classes. Once classes start we went 10 weeks to class which was three days a week and then you finish class and go to clinicals for 6 weeks and then you come back and take the final. It is overwhelming, but the staff is very helpful and you will make a lot of friends that you can experience all this with. Feel free to ask anything!
alocke3- when you said the first 10 weeks were 3 days a week, what we're the days and hours? Also for the clinical portion for the last 6 weeks, was that M-F? How many hours each day? I ask because I might need to work a little bit but I know it is hard to work while in nursing school. Also do you know why some schools have a 4 semester ADN program, while others have 5 or 6? Do you think the 4 semester programs are cramming in more hours/classes? I applied here, Chattahoochee(5 semesters) and West GA Tech (6 semesters). Appreciate the info and advice! This is good stuff!
If they still structure it the same way, we went Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the first ten weeks from 9-12:30ish on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9-3;30ish on Wednesdays. They give you a detailed schedule with all the hours at orientation, it varied just a little depending on the material. Clinicals were two days a week from 7am until 3:30pm. You put in your preference and site location and they assign them based on a lottery system. Most people were able to get the times they wanted. They had one rotation that was 12 hours just on Saturdays, but it could only accommodate 6 students. I'm not sure why there is a variation in the amount of semesters from place to place, and each place has a slightly different structure. For example our first semester was technically just one class but it was worth 9 credit hours so it was basically like three classes combined. Let me know what else I can help you with!

Someone asked earlier and I never heard the answer: how many are accepted for fall program...anyone know?
