Georgetown University Hospital - What's it like?

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm just curious to know what its like to work at Georgetown University Hospital, aside from pay and benefits (although if you see fit, feel free to comment on those too). Do/did you enjoy the nurses you worked with, the doctors? What about the hours and conditions? What about the cafeteria (silly, I know, but valid!) I'm particularly interested in any information you have on the PICU, but would love to hear about all other areas as well. Thanks for your help! :yelclap:

Does anyone have experience or has anyone heard about the georgetown picu? I have experience with both peds heme/onc and picu and I'm looking to get back to picu in the DC area. Honestly I've heard bad things about every picu in the dc/baltimore area (minus hopkins, that place just seems impossible to get into!). Any input regarding georgetown would be quite helpful, esp from experienced nurses, thanks!

As a GUH nurse, my only possible "con" about the PICU would be that it seems like they are often emptier than many other hospital's with PICU's I've seen. Not uncommon for them to have less than 6pts. I know that PICU nurses do have to float to gen peds and NICU and you should ask if you interview how often they forsee this happening.

Did you end up taking this position? I was just offered a job there and I am losing $6/hr on days and $8/hr on nights. I was also surprised by how the technology was not up to date in contrast with other places I have worked. Also, there's the requirement of rotating shifts which doesn't really appeal to me. What do you think?

I'm relocating from NC and speaking with a nurse recruiter Monday! We've been playing phone tag for awhile lately...they seem really nice!!! I hope to at least get a interview there so I can see the hospital first hand! I have 4 years ICU experience!

How was the nursing battery test I will be taking mine tomorrow for georgetown and have heard its very difficult to pass. Im nervous:(
