Georgetown University CRNA DNAP 2021

Anyone applying this year? Just wanted to get a thread going.  I'm about to submit my application soon :)

Specializes in Nurse Anesthesia.

Hi! Late to this party but I’m a current 1st year at Georgetown and I’ll give you my take on things.

Our interview process was virtual but it was very relaxed and I thought all of the faculty and students were so welcoming and personable. I never once felt unsettled (other than general interview nerves), but I agree with the above post about it being more personality-based and conversational. As everyone says, try to be yourself and let your personality shine through.

Look up the faculty bios if you haven’t already. They are all incredible, it honestly seems like they’re famous in the CRNA world, and they truly want you to succeed here. That was the biggest sell (in my opinion) compared to other programs I interviewed with. I personally feel like they try to cultivate a really positive environment for everyone. The faculty always encourage us to de-stress and take care of ourselves — even though it feels impossible at times! But seriously they’re amazing, I really look up to them.

I don’t feel any competition among classmates. The faculty stresses from day 1 that we will not get anywhere competing with each other. I truly don’t talk about grades with friends and I don’t care how anyone else is doing except myself. If you’re accepted, try to always keep that in mind — keep your head down and stay in your own lane, just put in the time & effort it takes to be successful!

As I’m sure you’ve heard, the first year is super tough. I still look back at the Summer semester and can’t believe we learned as much as we did in such a short time. I remember reading on one of these forums that it’s like drinking from a fire hose, and that is definitely an accurate statement. The fall gets harder because there are more tests you have to juggle and a ton of content, but it’s definitely manageable if you put the time in and stay on top of everything. Something that has been difficult for a lot of us to grasp is that you DO NOT NEED TO GET STRAIGHT A’s! I know it’s cliche but you just need to do YOUR personal best. Sometimes I study 2 weeks for an exam and get a B, sometimes I study 4 days for an exam and get an A. At the end of the day my goals are to learn all of the content, pass each exam and move on to the next semester. And of course to ultimately be a safe and competent CRNA.

I love my classmates and I’ve made some amazing friends through this program. I’m so so glad I chose Georgetown and I would do it 100 times again. I truly can’t imagine being anywhere else. Best of luck on your interview, you’ll be great and I hope you love it as much as I did!

Thank you so much for your response! It definitely helped calm my nerves a bit. I'm not the best interviewer by any means. My personality shines when not in an interview environment LOL! Did they ask anything clinical at all? Shocked that there hasn't been mentioned of anything clinical based. I hoping the in person interviews aren't much different than the interview you described above.

I honestly have no idea how the in-person interviews will differ from our virtual ones, but I would be prepared to answer any type of question -- clinical or personality-based. I used to practice answering questions out loud to myself while I was driving or showering, just so they sounded more natural! Have your little elevator speech/intro down, the first 10 seconds are the most nerve racking and then you'll ease into it. And keep in mind they also want to impress the applicants just like you want to impress them! Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for their replies! Nervous and excited to see how it plays out in person this year!

Thank you! How has your clinical experience been? Also are you from the area? I am worried about the expensive housing in the area, along with the expensive tuition..
