Congrats everyone!! I didn’t apply this year but this is my dream school. If anyone who just got in would be willing to chat with me about applications in the near future, I’d love that!

Again, congrats to you!

Does anyone know if they'll notify those waitlisted if they're still accepting on a rolling basis or is the class officially set? Tried to contact Edith, but haven't heard anything since November.

Hi everyone! I have a quick question.

I took a 4 credit Chemistry course at a community college, does is matter that I took it there or do they prefer I take it through a 4 year college?

Just wondering! thanks ?

Hi everyone! Not sure if anyone is still getting notifications from this thread, but figured it's worth a try! I will be interviewing at Georgetown at the end of the month and was wondering if any of you who were accepted last year had any insight into the process and updates on how your first year is going? Thanks in advance! I hope it's everything you hoped it would be!

I’ll chime in. First about the interview:

Mostly personality-based questions. They will try to make you unsettled and won’t react to your answers. But they won’t ask you anything that is too out of the box or what you wouldn’t expect from a normal interview. Be yourself. They will give you an opportunity to ask them questions.

You will also be interviewed by students. This is more laidback and they ask you similar questions. Then your answers are compiled and assessed.

The interview is made up of a tour as well (if you’re in person). In your down time you will be able to talk to current students where you can ask them questions, this  is informal.

There will also be a part where you introduce yourself to the group, say a little about yourself etc. The professors will introduce themselves. They will talk about the program very generally, nothing that you can’t find on the internet already, aka not that useful if you already did your research.

The program itself:

First year is tough, it starts out easy in the Summer, then they pile it on in the fall and not proportionally, much more. It’s not necessarily that the material is difficult, it is the volume of material and when they present it.
For example, our 2 exams were all within a few days of each other, to accommodate our semester essentially being done by thanksgiving break. Which yay we are done early, but kinda sucks cause you don’t feel like you can prepare well enough for any of them. Apparently that’s the worst it’ll ever be even in comparison to Spring semester of first year which is apparently the worst.

Another thing that I wish would have been more clear, there are core classes that you must have a 3.0 GPA in, and you must have a 3.0 in the program over all as well. If the average of your 5 core classes is below that, you fail. It’s a lot of pressure to operate under.
Be aware that the class culture you have will vary depending on who gets admitted. For example half our class is young 20-somethings and the other half is more adult-like people. It creates a rift between the class. No one talks or participates in our class except for the same two or three people. They tell you not to compete with one another but people do but just don’t admit it (think of the people applying to the program).
One last pearl, the upper class man you get as an peer advisor will either be a godsend or completely useless. Most of them are useless. But the couple that are useful really are, and if the classmate who’s lucky enough to get them is also kind and willing they will share what they get from their advisor in the form of: exam topics to focus on, how teachers really are, things to watch out for etc.

P.S.

Also the program is surprisingly disorganized for a “top tier” school. Expect to be left in the dark about details. I believe this is related to them being understaffed and overworked and the less than useful program secretary.

Now saying that, the help is there if you want it and ask for it. I will say that test taking is a skill, if you lack it, this first year will be hard. You need to get through it to get to clinical (where bad test takers tend to shine). Scrape by and you’ll be fine - and by scrape I mean 3.0. Also you will find that you will start to hate your classmates in varying degrees, it’s probably just your frustration at everything else. Acknowledge it and move on. It’s useless to you and nothing else matters.

I know the tone of my post sounds negative but if you read all that and still want to go, I would say do it. If that discourages you, save yourself the pain and loans. Trust me. Despite all the negative feelings I have, I know I need to be here and that this is what I want to do. I love everything that we are learning (even if I hate the people that teach it at times).

Thank you so much for the information! I have an interview with Georgetown at the end of this month. I was told Georgetown has a CCRN type test, math test, and essay. My interview is in person. I'm thinking since it's in person, it's different from what you all experience for a virtual interview. Any information will be greatly appreciated
