Hey guys, I was wondering your stats when you applied, such as GPA, experience, location (general), volunteer work(if any). Other questions:1. How long did it take to get accepted?2. Are you working?3. Anyone from the Midwest? (Kansas!)4. How are you handling the financial aspect?5. What is your typical weekly schedule?6. How often do you need to go to campus?7. Any regrets?8. Any advice?9. Did certain experiences make you stand out, that you know of? (ICU, ER)10. Difficult to balance family/spouse with school?11. How do you find preceptors? Have you had any difficulty?12. If your GPA was not fantastic still above 3.1, did you have a difficult time justifying why you would do great in their program? 13. I've heard it is intense, scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being piece of cake and 10 being every doctor who has ever ripped your a$$ in the same room yelling at the same time, how would you rate it?14. General thoughts and opinions or tips.... Thanks!

Congrats on your acceptance to Georgetown! I am applying to Georgetown's CNM/WHNP program and am hoping to finally submit my application within the next week - I feel like I'm going a little crazy about it and should just turn the thing in and have it out of my hands! How long after you submitted your application did you hear that you were accepted? What do you feel were your strengths in your application?

I know exactly how you feel about not knowing which school to choose. Georgetown is so expensive, but seems like a great program. I know it is relatively newer, but I have heard good things so far, and their board pass rates are great. I haven't researched Samford, but like I said, I am going to go the WHNP route, I think. Depending on how flexible your job is, maybe you will be able to work around the scheduled class times and have it work out for you. I've also been giving that some serious thought, but I have the option of moving my schedule around pretty easily. Not that I want to work every weekend, but we will see... another option for me will be decreasing my hours, depending on how challenging the program I go to is. Sorry, I don't know a whole lot more than that and what I've been reading on forums here. Also, have you attended any of the Georgetown online information sessions? They give you the opportunity to ask questions of a current student, so I'm sure that would be valuable information to you.

Good luck to you with Samford! It will be great to have a couple of options, and I'm sure you will choose the best program :)

Hi Culpernia

Well.... I just heard back from Samford and guess what? I got accepted for January... Now I really confused!! Everyone I speak to about Samford says the program is awesome and very straight forward. I don't know anyone in the GU program and I cannot PM just yet cuz I am so new at All Nurses. I haven't attended any information sessions and perhaps that would be wise before making a decision.

Hmmmmm..... What to do??? I guess it is a good problem to have, but I don't want to make a mistake and pass up the chance of a lifetime, if you know what I mean....

If there is anyone out there who is currently enrolled and has gone through some courses at Georgetown, I would love to speak with you.. Perhaps someone can PM me and we can chat....

I am currently enrolled at Georgetown University in the CNM/WHNP program. I have finished one semester and my second semester begins in Jan, however I am switching tracks to the ACNP program. I can tell you that Georgetown is a GREAT school. From the beginning, my advisers admissions/faculty/etc. have all been wonderful. (I applied to other schools and no one has been as receptive or helpful as Georgetown). But I won't lie: the program is SUPER intense. I am enrolled part-time because I also work part-time and have 3 small children. I spend every waking moment studying. Georgetown is also ridiculously expensive~$1680 a credit. However, you ARE getting your degree from a prestigious school. The cost of Georgetown has recently had me considering other programs, but really, I think the cost is worth it.

Congrats on hearing back from Samford! That is awesome news! Now you have a tough decision to make for sure. I know how anxiety-inducing it can be to wonder if you are making the right choice, since this is a life-altering decision :) I've heard nothing but good stuff about Georgetown, I'm sure it wouldn't be a mistake to choose their program. At the same time... cost is certainly an issue. If you have heard great things about Samford from people who have attended, then that gives you a lot more to consider.

So I am just about to finish up my first semester as a full time FNP student. I LOVE this program. It is expensive, I am paying for this with loans and I totally believe this is an investment in my future.

I have been reading past posts and to clarify, GU finds your preceptors and clinical sites. The professors are amazing and the there is a ton of support. The program is rigorous for sure, I do not work and I study 8 hours a day, but I am doing really well. I have a son, 10 months old, and my husband is very supportive.

The students who are not doing well are the ones who work full time and go to school full time, so its not a great option for anyone who wants to do that. My friend did Northern Kentucky University online and loved it and was able to work full time.

Okay so my admissions stats: (Do not laugh!)

BSN/Undergrad GPA: 3.5 at University of Cincinnati ( I may have partied in really hard in undergrad!)

GRE: 1400 with 5 writing

Experience: 5 years ICU and Hospice

Volunteer: 3 years at a primary care clinic for underserved population

I did not shadow a FNP, but one of my letters of recommendation was from a FNP i worked with.

What else can I tell you. The professors I work with tell me that their acceptance criteria is the same for their online program and their traditional program. They also tell me they see no difference in how they teach live or online. I have friends from classes now who i study with online or via phone. There are some students who went directly from BSN to graduate school, but some really struggle with classes and have to work VERY hard to keep up. I will say that as a nurse and now in the program, you should get experience before becoming an advanced clinician. You really need to build your assessment skills and critical thinking as a nurse. I definately would be a nervous patient if you didn't have any RN experience.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.7, Nursing/Science GPA is a 3.9, and have a ton of volunteer experience all over the world. I have been to 11 countries in my undergrad, and most of them were to volunteer in orphanages/women shelters. I obviously do not have any RN experience, but have great references and learn quickly. I'm applying to the "on campus" program and if accepted into the program, will relocate from Idaho to DC. Any thoughts? Opinions?

I am also finishing up my first semester in the Online Part-Time FNP program at Georgetown. I LOVE it! It is very intense, but I am enjoying every minute of it!

I graduated with my BSN in May this year (I had no nursing degree prior to graduation) and was accepted into the program immediately upon graduation. I only had to wait 2 days to hear back from them once I submitted the application. I had a 4.0GPA and 20+ years of healthcare experience however. I also currently work full time, I have 2 children, and I am getting A's in my classes as of right now... we shall see after the final exam if this holds of course!

It can be done if you are an extremely dedicated individual, but I would also not recommend attending this program right out of school with no prior experience. While I have only been a nurse for such a short time, I had MANY years of experience in the field with the intent of pursuing this education when my children were old enough. Because of this, and some excellent employers, I have been provided many excellent opportunities to expand my learning during that time. I worked in family practice off and on for over 20 years as well as volunteer work at a community clinic and I worked for a podiatrist as well. My experience prepared me very well for this education. I have seen individuals struggle with the program with 20 years or 2 years of experience as an RN, it is rigorous, but I believe it will be well worth it in the end!

As far as working full-time, I wouldn't recommend it if it can at all be avoided ~ even for the part time program! I am doing it because I have to (I received a scholarship that paid me to go to school for my undergrad degree if I would agree to work for 2 years after graduation as a nurse), and because I want and NEED the experience as an RN before graduating and becoming a Nurse Practitioner. I totally agree with DPatti that there is no way I would want a Nurse Practitioner with no experience as an RN!

I just started the application process today for the September 2013 cohort. It is nice to see all of the positive comments on here, I plan to go full time and not work if I am accepted. I will try to check in here from time to time and will let you all know if I am accepted when I find out.

i am applying for the 2013 September cohort, part-time. I will be submitting my application probably this week or next week. I have my fingers crossed. I will let you all know if I get in and how long it took me to get a response after submitting.

I just can't get over the cost, I'm positive it's a really good program though. It would be a dream to go to Georgetown.

Patti_RN- Have you completed your course of study? Do you feel that you were well prepared?

I am starting in September and am extremely nervous about the cost of the school.
