Georgetown Online FNP Program

Published

Hey guys, I was wondering your stats when you applied, such as GPA, experience, location (general), volunteer work(if any). Other questions:1. How long did it take to get accepted?2. Are you working?3. Anyone from the Midwest? (Kansas!)4. How are you handling the financial aspect?5. What is your typical weekly schedule?6. How often do you need to go to campus?7. Any regrets?8. Any advice?9. Did certain experiences make you stand out, that you know of? (ICU, ER)10. Difficult to balance family/spouse with school?11. How do you find preceptors? Have you had any difficulty?12. If your GPA was not fantastic still above 3.1, did you have a difficult time justifying why you would do great in their program? 13. I've heard it is intense, scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being piece of cake and 10 being every doctor who has ever ripped your a$$ in the same room yelling at the same time, how would you rate it?14. General thoughts and opinions or tips.... Thanks!

The NP program at Georgetown is extremely impersonal and uninspiring. The faculty do not care about the individual students once you are admitted and they have secured your money. Also, the support staff are not helpful at all. I was given no useful guidance when things were not going smoothly, whereas my friends at UPenn NP program had much more support and personal interaction for less tuition burden! For upwards of $1500 per credit the education provided here is a scam and I would not wish this mistake on my worst enemies. The online courses are quite lame and the professors are hit or miss. If you happen to sign up for the wrong class and get a lousy professor you will miss out on an entire course of quality teaching. Save your money and get a better education at any other local university where someone may actually care about you and not treat you like a statistic! Don't pay for a name just because you like labels. Pay for a quality service as you would in any other industry. This is a young program and needs time to get their priorities straight. In my opinion this program seems like a big money making operation with little to no regard for the human connection, and ZERO compassion for the individual. Overall rating, C- however I will reduce to a D due to the ridiculous price and lousy product.

AmylynetteBSN THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. ARE YOU DONE WITH PROGRAM? IF SO HOW WAS IT

Hey everyone... I know this is an old post-- but I just applied to Georgetown's FNP program and can't take the waiting! For those who were accepted how long did it take to receive your admission status? Also, I have a lot of work experience but feel that my GPA is really lacking. These are grades unfortunately from when I started college at 18; I'm now 28. Any advice would be great! Thanks!!

Hi there,

Here is some information about myself!

My BSN GPA was 3.577, I think my "nursing" GPA was like 3.8/3.9? I didn't really learn how to study until late Sophomore year/early Junior year so my grades weren't amazing before that.

I worked two internships in college, one in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and the Special Care Nursery that lasted eight weeks, and another internship that I worked in Labor & Delivery for about six months. I now work as a Labor & Delivery RN and I have almost one year of experience. About two months ago I started working as a Women's Health Clinic RN at a prestigious University hospital system. I am located in the Midwest. Currently I work the weekend program at the hospital, and two/three days a week at the clinic job. I am 22 years old, single. I am planning to start the Georgetown FNP program in Fall of 2015, I just found out I was accepted about two weeks ago - I am very excited! I can provide more information on the program once I start it, it has been pretty clear in the requirements and obligations of the program at this time.

Let me know if you have any more questions - you can always PM me!

Lol...I agree with you 100%! It is a hit or miss with professors which sucks because I did miss out on great learning opportunity that my friend had with her professor. When I brought this up to the program director, her reply was that I have plenty of support. I replied back and said where? Professors take a long time to answer and you are left to do your own work without assistance. Do not offend a professor by voicing your opinion because you will be shunned for the rest of the program.

It's expensive yes, you will get a degree with Georgetown University on it (if you care about labels), but I do not think the learning experience is that great. My undergrad BSN was from a school costing $30k and I definitely feel that was worth it.

I spoke to an admission counselor @ Georgetown today and decided to apply to the WHNP program. I have a 3.61 GPA and 3 classes left until gradation (with my BSN). Additionally, I have 5 years of women's health work experience as an LPN (working triage). Women's health is what I was born to do and I love it, but I'm getting anxious about this entire application process. I plan to apply to multiple NP programs, but I'm really excite/anxious about this program. Has anyone else been in a similar situation with this or any NP program. I don't know if I'm overthinking this or if I really should be anxious. I graduate with my BSN in Aug and the advisor I spoke to recommended I apply to the September (start date) program. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations to offer??

Hey Meggie Roo! I just applied to the WHNP tract. Did you apply? Did you get in? I'd love to chat about it!

Hi Patti_RN,

U probably graduated by now! How was it? I got my acceptance letter few days ago and very excited but nervous!!

Please share your experience

Thank you!!

Hey Palmira,

I was accepted to the WHNP program for this fall. I would love to talk about Georgetown with you!

Tinabeanrn, what school in Michigan was that? I'm in TC and will need to do my NP program online. I am desperately researching as I am out of time with the VA to make my choice. Thanks.
