Hi! I'm just looking for some opinions here
I study Prehealth Science at Conestoga College and its pretty awesome. I applied to several schools, including George Brown for the Practical Nursing program. Being my #1 choice, I'm concerned about not hearing from admissions yet as I applied first week of December. I know that they just opened in February, but its nearly April..
I'm pretty sure that GBC does not accept my Prehealth program and considered my high school marks. I did okay in high school but not great. 79% in math, 64% in bio, 52% in chemistry and 75% in english. I took all university level classes, if this matters because i know some schools applying bonussing. Conestoga does!
The admission requirements for the program as stated on the website are: English with a grade 70+, mathematics with a grade of 60+, biology with a grade of 70+ and chemistry with a grade of 60+.
GBC asked me to write an admissions test as a mature applicant for biology in early January. I totally killed that test (Thanks Prehealth!) and while the school won't release my mark, admissions did confirm that I passed the assessment.
On the student Stu-View portal, my application status is still listed as "no decision" however it does say that I meet the eligibility for the program now that my testing is complete.
Does anyone have any insight as to what might be happening or know if GBC admissions are just slow or should I assume I'm not going to get an offer of admission? :)
Thanks! :)

I wouldn't call March 16th "nearly April". You only applied last month. Give it a while. My daughter was accepted into the January intake of the PN propgram and she didn't hear until October. College admissions don't happen overnight. They are dealing with thousands of applications that have to be dealt with on an individual basis.

I'm going to be very realistic in saying that I'm not sure your grades will make the cut as it is a highly competitive program to get into.
Unfortunately there are far less seats in a nursing program than there are applicants - sometimes around 100 spots for 1000+ applicants. Because of this, the averages of those admitted to the program are often in the 80s or 90s and unfortunately some of your marks have just met the minimum requirements listed.
How are your Prehealth grades at Conestoga?
Prehealth grades at Conestoga are not applicable to George Brown College.
Right. They are only applicable at Conestoga, so why not use them to apply to Conestoga? If it is your dream to become a nurse then getting in some where is better than getting in no where!
If you were set on attending GBC for nursing, why didn't you take Prehealth there?

I'm a newcomer to Canada and I have no prerequisite credit so I attend adult high school. My average marks is 92 but, unfortunately I've been waitlisted by GB. It's obvious the competition is heated in the RPN program. But I'm not worried the least since I've got Humber's offer the day after their assessment.
