I am a new LPN moving to the Atlanta area. I'm really interested in clinical research but have not heard back from any of the companies that I have applied for. In the mean time, I am considering working for Gentiva. Is this a good company to work for? I hear they're now paying per pt visit & no longer paying hourly. Approximately, how much is each visit? Do they keep you busy & will always guarantee you enough work?

How long has it been since you applied for these jobs? In my experience it takes at least a month for them to get back to me. Most likely if you a qualified (if you aren't, they may never call you back) they will either respond immediately or take awhile. I would be cautious if they respond immediately...see what their turnover rate and reputation is before accepting a position. Also if they take forever to respond look into why they took so long. Maybe they are chronically understaffed and simply could not get back to you in a timely manner. If they seem well staffed, then maybe it's a great place to work and they just had more pressing issues.
if you can buy some time, wait for a job you will really like if it has not been long. If you can't wait it out, working at gentiva or another home health agency might be perfect because you can go PRN later to keep your foot in the door if a better job comes along. Or just do PRN at gentiva or elsewhere if you can get by if you don't need full time hours.

If you continue to have a hard time landing a clinical research position there are a few technical colleges that offer clinical research certificate courses. I think they are usually about 2 semesters approximately 6 to 9 months. Good luck

Keep in mind that Gentiva is one of the companies that was involved in a big federal to do about fraud in recent times. I once worked for them, excellent first supervising DON, then new personnel took over the local office and they ran off the nurses and the client that I worked for. Because of the federal sanctions, I would not consider this employer in the future.
