I am getting ready to start my final semester and man does it look like its going to be boring...

It's about management, role transition, leadership and I think delegation things too. And some Nclex prep too.

I was just thinking it would be more patho type stuff like we've had all along. I don't feel ready! I guess I will spend my free time studying more of my previous patho stuff and pharm to make sure I am caught up!

I was just shocked! We do have preceptorships this semester so we'll be practicing, I just was hoping to learn more! I am glad we are learning role transition too though, just afraid I'm gonna get zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! :monkeydance:

are you in a BSN program? In this area, thats the difference between the ADN and BSN, just a semester of the stuff that you mentioned. Several people I have talked to from 2 differennt colleges have told me the same thing. In my ADN program we do go into delegation but TG its not a hole semester!

I am guessing you are in your 20's? Those things you find so boring now will be fascinating as you advance in your career. Nursing is so much more than walking in through the doorway with meds in a cup. It's about forging collaborative bonds with physicians. It's about participating in ways to successfully manage the nursing shortage. It's about becoming an expert, rather than a novice, and then mentoring novices into experts. It's about advocating for nurses when management decides to freeze wages. It's about identifying a problem within the department and working together to make things better for everyone who works on your floor. Also known as management, role transition, leadership and delegation.

Jov, Nope wrong guess..I'm actually 30 and nursing is a second career. I've been working since 15, but career since 20. I've worked in Human Resources/Recruiting for 10 years...nope I'm not saying management is boring, I'm saying I really feel like I want more patho...in addition to the role transition, etc. I'm sure I will find interest in the topics but I was thinking it would be more integrated.

moongurl, this is a diploma program, I already have a BA in Psych and masters work and late decided hey I want to be a nurse...it's very enjoyable though. I'm looking forward to continuing on and getting my BSN/MSN so I know I will see much more of this, I guess I just feel so...YIKES about no patho! After all these 2.5 years (its a 3 year program) of patho and other things, I'm in shell shock LOL!
