This is mostly venting, but would appreciate finding out if this is just how it is. After finding out just a few weeks into the semester that I would not get as much money through grants as I thought, I applied for a loan. Financial aid office says it takes about 4 weeks. Well it is now april 8th? and I applied for my loan on Feb 7th. I called over spring break to find out what is going on. I was told that my application was on someone's desk who was off for the week. But that it was scheduled to be turned into the bank institution at the end of the month. I received paperwork from Sallie Mae, and the Bank, but still have received no money. I payed for everything at the beginning of the semester that was not covered by the grant. So now I'm really getting tight financially, and I hate doing this to my family. I got told at the financial aid office that it was taking so long because they were very short staffed. Well geesh! You keep charging more for tuition you should be able to take care of the students sufficiently. Does anyone elses school work this way? :angryfire

Sounds like the financial aid office where I go to school. I go to KCKCC. Where are you going?

OMG!!!! You are right!!!! I can not believe that there is someone else on here that goes there. I was just on the phone with them for 30 minutes. And by the end of the conversation I got 'the check may be in the mail."

If you go to KU I'm going to laugh. I absolutely despise the Financial Aid Office, though from a different perspective. I work in one of the billing offices on campus, and even when I call over to financial aid as an employee, no one even tries to help me. They also have a tendency to transfer calls ABOUT financial aid to my office.

I love KU, but the people in Financial Aid have no idea what they're doing.

I'm just confused by my financial aid office. They don't make much of anything clear and finally I had to go in there like a dope and explain to them that I really don't understand what they are talking about. They never sent me any paperwork, etc. after my acceptance letter so it's a darn good thing that I knew to go and file for government grants, loans, etc or I'd be sitting here with an acceptance letter and no money to go to school!

Our FA office is clueless (it's a small comm college). You really have to manage your apps yourself and keep reminding them about refund checks.

Just this week, there was a notice on the bulletin board outside the office for a nursing scholarship. Said right on it that the apps were inthe FA office. I go in to ask for the app, and the three employees were totally clueless and denied any knowledge of the scholarship. Had to take them out in the hall and point to the notice, and even then, they couldn't find the apps and couldn't help me. I had to search for the scholarship online to get application info.

It seems nearly every interchange I've had with them has been like that--I end up tracking down the info myself.

So it does sound like most FA offices are just clueless. I have just been so disappointed with this school. I was in college 20 years ago and had no problems, but boy I'm paying for it now. I am just now starting to get info about my student loan that applied for in february. And now it is time to get paperwork in for summer. Good Grief! Thanks for your replies.
