I guess I'll have to see on orientation day what hours we have clinicals --hopefully they tell us. I'd better be prepared to get a daycare opening at 5:30.

I{d talk to your professor asap about what's expected so you can plan properly.

My clinical that I just finished was supposedly 7a -4p but in reality, I had to be picked up by the shuttlebus at 6:10a to get into the hospital in time for our 'pre-pre conference' at 6:45. Then it was time to take report, have our regular pre-conference at 7:30 and hit the floor. We'd report off at 2 and usually leave around 4. We also did not have our patient assignements til we got there at 6:45.

Others in clincials with the same assigned times didn't have to be there til 7and some got to leave at 2:30.

I think it all depends on instructors.

Do they require you to get there before 7:00 to prepare or can you do this at home? I have heard that some students must report at 5:30 or 6:00 to prepare to take care of their patient. Is that just a recommendation? I have children and I'm a single parent and I don't know if I can get there that early without a daycare that is open around those times. I wantd to know if I should use a private daycare so maybe the hours are more flexible and would allow me to drop off my children earlier.

My clinical is from 7-2p. We have to go the day before and pick up our assingment, which really consists of a paper with our pts and their room number on it...we have to then gather the necc. info on our pt and then at home we have to look up our meds..know why we are giving them etc, write out the labs, what the Highs or Lows signify , print out some info on the patho of the disease our pt has and then we do a mind map...doesnt take too long..we are supposed to come in with that done (even though some work on it during down time in clinical) we dont have a pre conference, we just meet at 7, she asks if anyone has questions and we go.

I am in an evening program so we do almost all of our clinical from 1600-2200. I am in the last level so we do have some expereinces that we have to do during the day like our OR rotation and endo and cardio rotations. I love having clinical at night though, most places are more relaxed (MOST)!!
