Just wanted to shout from the top of my lungs that I just received an Internship on an Ortho unit for the summer! I am sooooo psyched! It's like a 10 week clinical except I get PAID!! I get to shadow a RN for 3 days a week and perform all the skills I have learned so far under her discretion and I get to go somewhere else in the hospital for one day each week just to observe and I get PAID for that too! I am so excited!! The interviewing/application process was extremely competitive.

Now that is cool. I wish they had something like that in my neck of the woods.

Congratulations! More power to you, honey. Unfortunately, I detested ortho. But that's just me. I find it amazing how much diversity there is among nurses in what they like and don't like. Thank goodness, huh?!
I'm super happy for you!

Congratulations! This sounds like an awesome opportunity for added clinical experience and you'll get a pay check to boot!
Did your school facilitate your arranging this, or did you work directly with the hospital and set it up yourself?

kim, wondeful!
Judith, I found out at my school about the internship. They just had a posting on our bulletin board. There are a couple hospitals in my area that offer summer internships to students who have completed 1 year of ADN or are entering their 4th year of BSN. It's a wonderful opportunity. They do it primarily to attract students to the hospital after graduation.

babynurse.. Ortho isn't that bad.. :) I just don't understand why noone likes it..
Just kidding.. I actually work on an Ortho floor as a PCA and when I start almost a year ago.. I HATED IT!!!! But now I LOVE IT!!!!.. It is hard work unlike many floors where patients can take care of themselves.... I think I like it b/c you get to see alot...
Most broken hips are not JUST broken hips.. They have diabetes or CHF or COPD or many other health problems..
KimRN03.. I think you will love it... I am wanting to be a Pediatrics nurse, but I think I am gonna stay with Ortho for a while after I graduate, and who knows I may never leave :)

I just saw a total hip and knee replacement the other day at clinical, it was AWESOME!! Kinda reminded me of wood shop in high school though when they busted out the hammers and bone saws and stuff. Anyhoo, congrats and enjoy your internship!
