Scared Silly

Hey everyone,

I applied to my university's college of nursing and I'm scared I won't get in. Then if I get in I'm scared I won't be able to do it and I'll be one of those people that gets let go. Some words of hope and encouragement would be really appreciated.

This is gonna be short and sweet.

Its okay to be scared. We all were/are at one point.

Just like anything it takes time and practiceto be good at what you do and learn what you should know!

Freakin' double post.

First, BREATHE!!!!!

Don't let your fears get to you. When you get in you will do it! I graduate in 70 days and believe me I still don't sleep well the night before clinicals and I have a huge adreniline rush every time I walk into the doors of that hospital. But I have made it through a day at a time and I'm looking forward to the start of my new career!

And remember..."You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try." by Beverly Sills

All the best to you!

You wouldn't be human if you weren't scared. I think my most intimidating moment so far (I'm nearly at the end of first semester) was the first day of class when they handed us the outline of all that we would be doing this semester. That was on a Monday & by Wednesday afternoon, I was crying & asking what did I get myself into?????

Fast forward to 3 months later....it's amazing to look back & see that I made it through & it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.....it's a great feeling of accomplishment too.

It's ok to be scared & nervous....good luck on getting in & try not to let it overwhelm you. If you set your mind to it, you'll succeed. :)

Repeat after me...

I can do this...

I can do this...

I can do this...

I can do this...

Now, something that's always helped me, when I have a goal that seems almost impossible, is to keep something tangible around that reminds me of my commitment. It sounds silly, but it really helps.

When I'm finally done with school and graduate, my mom and I are going to go to Paris together, so I have a miniature Eiffel Tower statue on my desk at home and at work, and on my keychain. It serves as a nice reminder, when I'm stressed, that yes I can and will do this.

Good luck!

:D :D :D :D

1. you're scared you won't get in.

2. you're scared you will.

3. you're scared you won't pass the first quarter/semester.

4. you're glad you did but you're scared you won't do well in the second quarter/semester.

5. repeat steps 3 and 4 for the entire length of your program.

6. you're scared to graduate.

7. you're scared to take the NCLEX.

8. you're elated that you passed the NCLEX but you're scared on your first day as an RN.

9. you relax over time as an RN BUT! then something new comes along and you're scared again.

10. then you stop and look back on the times when you were #1, #2, etc. and you wonder why you were scared.

my rambling point to all of this is that it's okay to be scared sometimes. but it doesn't mean that you can't or won't achieve exactly what you set out to do. :) good luck. :)

just want to say thanks to those who posted their sights becaause im also afraid of what will happen in my nursing studies. nursing will be my second course. I'm graduating on my first degree on may and be enrolling on the 21st of april in a nursing school. I was really scared before but its lesser now. Thanks guys.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. You all made me feel soooo much better. I'll keep you all posted on whether or not I get in.

Both USA987 and Jennerizer, gave some great insights. I, too, find myself anxious, but I realize, that I must just take it a day at a time. The "only thing to fear, is fear itself" something I quote to myself often, as well as "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Scared can be good sometimes, it can help propel you to do what needs doing!!
