Question....Big decision to make!!!

I have a choice to make.

My husband and I need money, so I went back to work as a CNA on the weekends to help make ends meet while I finish school.

1) a nursing home, here in town, paying me $9 an hour, and I work 24 hours a weekend. It's all right on 3rd shift, which I like, but 2nd shift really sucks (from 6p-10p). Not very busy after 10. Paid every two weeks.

2) a hospital, day shift, probably only 16 hours a week. Less patients, and I don't know if I like the people there. It's about a 40-45 minute drive away from home. Pay is $14.50 an hour and I would get paid every week.

What would you do?

Dear Julielpn,

I would pray about this matter with your husband. Always be slow to make any decisions.

As for what MHO would be...I would stay where I was. The commute alone would deter me from making the change. The old saying that "a bird in the hand is worth two is the bush" or " the grass is always greener on the other side"...kinda of sums it up.

IMHO the time used to commute, could be used for study time, family time, etc. You would lose 8hrs of work time, for any amount of hourly pay you might gain. Doesn't seem worth to me.

Also you could write down all the positives, and the negatives of working either position, and used that to help if you're not sure what is best for you and your family.

Best wishes in whatever you chose to do...:)

I agree with what has already been said. Make a list of pros and cons with your husband. Decide if you will really GAIN as much as you think in the end. I am sure you already figured it out but the job at the hospital will only be earning about $16 more per week which most of it will end up going to gas for the longer commute. NOW, if you are wanting to switch to day shift and the 2nd shift and 3rd shift is not for you then maybe going to the hospital might be good BUT then again. If you don't know the hospital to well, then maybe you might not like it. There is quite a lot to think about. I know you are asking what we would do but personally I would stick to the first one based off the fact I would not really be getting that much more and most would go towards gas. That is just me and everyone has to decided what is personally best for them.

Good luck, in trying to make your decision I know how hard it can be sometimes.
