Once and for all...

Okay,

I know it seems this discussion is like beating a dead horse, but...

How many of you recommend purchasing the Littmann card III while in nursing school? I know I need to have it engraved and chained to my body, but I need to know once and for all what ya'll think!!

So let's hear it!!

Jenny:kiss

Nope.

I don't even know which one I have, it was a gift. But it's not a special cardiology one or anything. I've had doctors and midwives comment on how awesome and clear it is. I never even use a neonatal one on the babies.... it's so functional - I love it!

If you go into a cardiac specialty and decide you really want one, or if you just have some cash to throw around right now, then go for it. But I don't think you really need it just yet.

Heather

I agree with Heather. You don't need it yet, but if you can afford it, it is great. I love mine (so much it is chained to my body) and haven't had a problem with it walking off.

Jenny, Do you need it ? No.. it's a personal preference.. I choose to use a Littmann and yes you have to be extra careful so it doesn't walk off.

Marie

:)

I'm wondering the same thing too Jenny. I've heard great things about Litman and Ultrascope. Our school has a contract with Ultrascope and thinking I might go that way. There is one the school offers that is 13 bucks and some how I don't think that one will get me very far :chuckle

I emailed a person from one of the Littmann sites to see what they said. He said the Classic II was a very good scope that would get me through nursing school. He said I would at some point want to upgrade to the Cardi III because that is a more versatile scope that would suit all of my needs from adults to peds. My goal is nicu/peds but that may change. I did not want to spend the $118 if I would not be able to use it. However, I also want to think about spending my money wisely so I am still on the fence as to whether to just go ahead and get it and be done with it. The classic is about 2 times less that the cardio.

I want to give myself any possible advantage to learning all of those sounds! I guess I have to decide if that is what I should use my Christmas and b'day money for.

Let me know what you decide to do.

Jenny

I have a littman classic, yes I have to keep an eye on it, but I think it's wonderful! I have no difficulty hearing lung sounds with it. Some of the people in my class bought the ultrascope(?). They are really cool looking, but have heard some complains about their sound quality... Try them out and see which one you like the best.. Good LUck

i have the cardio littman and love it. sounds as clear as can be. do i "need" it? prolly not. but i love the clarity and that's what i was after.

as for working in nicu, don't they usually have scopes on the unit? the NICU that i did a clinical rotation in had a strict policy of no outside scopes because of the risk of bringing something into a delicate area.
