New To Board

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello,

My name's Lila and I'm new to this board. I'm so happy to have found this group of nursing students for I've recently been accepted to a nursing school in the midwest (OSF St. Francis Medical Center School Of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois), and I'm sure I'll be able to learn a lot of "survival tips' from all the pros here=)

I'm 32 years old, single, I currently live in San Jose, CA, and I'm almost finishing a medical assistant program at a local career college. I figure being a medical assistant will be a good way for me to get a feel for the medical field until I actually begin the nursing school program either in the fall of 2003, or spring 2004. I have a lot of pre-req courses to take this coming year as the nursing school only offers the junior and senior years of the BSN program, and I only hope I'm able to pass the science classes such as chemistry which I was unable to pass in high school. At least the program doesn't requite math above elementary algebra as I wasn't able to do intermediate algebra in the past either. I guess the fact that I actually care about school now more than I did then will play a major part in being more successful in those classes!

I'm really excited about starting out, even the pre-reqs, and I'm happy at the idea of going to St. Francis as I used to work there as a candystriper when I was in high school and am looking forward to working there again someday. My goal is to be either a pediatric or neonatal nurse (I have a B.A. in Child Development and over 10 years of daycare experience which I have nice memories of even if teaching wasn't really my calling).

It' s good to be here, and I look forward to meeting all of you=)

Welcome

I myself just finished my first semester and even though it was stressful and rough at times I loved it... And I am sure you both will also..

I start work tomorrow as a PCA on an orthopedic floor, and I can't wait.. Lil nervous about the hip surgeries and stuff, but I am sure once I get the hang of it, then there won't be a problem..

Kathy.. Don't stess too much over the math.. For the most part there are a few formulas that you use for almost everything.. :)

Good Luck to you both..
