Most Challenging Class/Moment

Hello!

Just curious as to what you all have found as the most challenging or difficult class or moment in your nursing studies/career...

Specializes in Geriatrics, Hospice, Palliative Care.

Not so much a class, but the constant stress of worrying about which instructor is going to go off the deep end...will it be me who will be yelled at today? Also, the way students just...disappear...they get booted out. And the way instructors will ask questions that are just madness, and then cannot defend their answers. If the person who wrote the test question does not know why their answer is correct, is there any hope for us poor students? Sorry to be such a griper. I used to be a very nice, professional person who kept it all together. I'm sure that I'll return to that once I'm done with school (:

I had a challenging Psych clinical at a drug/alcohol recovery center. I didn't do as much of the nursing role as I expected and followed everyone at the center for one day of the seven weeks. Every day I had to talk to 3 people using therapeutic technique. The clinical was supposed to be form 7-3 but always seemed to go over to 4:30. It was stressfull b/c I'd never been with this population of patients, I'd never just walked into a strangers room and asked "is there anything you'd like to talk about?", and my teacher was a drill sargeant!!

holy moly, i'm getting worried about my psych rotation in 2 weeks now! :uhoh21:

i had a miniature breakdown during the lab practicum. there were 10 stations and the paper was 1-10. i was at station 4, began writing on line 1 instead of 4. about midway through this i realized what i did and was in a panic-- trying to erase and rewrite in the 2 minutues we have to get the skill finished. it was a complete nightmare. i was shaking, heart racing, sweating :scrying: , looking like a fool.

i got through it though. 9.5/10. i have no idea how that happened!

:biere: that day i went home and had a few glasses of wine to ease the pain of embarrassment.

OK so I just started OB/Peds rotation this term. Dear god. Now I am not trying to sound overly horrified or anything. But being a gay male and learning for 8 hours straight today about the lady parts and watching a babies be born.. well to say the least, I think I need a drink. :lol2:

I am convinced that if it were up to men to carry on the human race by way of birth, we would be the last generation to exist.

The 15 page paper story and the board game story had me cracking up! I can just imagine the fear and anxiety you guys felt :uhoh21:

One of my most challenging moments was in a Peds clinical. I had a very sick (and probably terminal) 8 year old boy and felt emotional worn out by the end of the day. We had post-clinial conference where we talk about our patients and what we did/learned that day and I could only get a few words out before I burst into tears infront of my instructor and 6 other students. I could not pull myself together to talk and felt pretty embarrassed. I found out later that my instructors also have a meeting once a week where they talk about how students are doing and my Peds teacher told everyone about my breakdown LOL

As far as classes, probably pharmacology. There is SO MUCH information that I didn't know where to starting studying.
