[font="comic sans ms"]i graduated from my adn in 2003. it was a four semester program and the first 3 semesters i was such a slacker. i got great grades and graduated with honors but my killer semster was my last one. i didn't lose my life i actually was super active. i was the president of the nursing club for 2 semesters, vice president for 1 semester and treasuer for another. i was vice president for the senior class. i also started a big buddy program during my second semester and i also did tutoring of underclass men. i also was addicted to playing cards during the school day ( i swear it's what kept me sane). i also was a class rep all 4 semesters and i was active in my church. i had a part time job (20 hours per week) and i had a bf. to top it off i did papers for other students. i have no clue how i made it but as others have said it has to do with school coming together for you and you being able to grasp the information. i had friends who had no life all they did was study and they got the same or worse grades than me. take it one day at a time and see how things go for you.

I think it is all in how you organize yourself. If you are doing fine and understanding all the material that you are learning, then there is no reason why it has to take over your life. I manage to spend quality time with my family and still get plenty of studying done to get an A. I also go skydiving with my friends every other weekend. So yes, I believe you CAN still have a life. By the way, it does get harder as you go along. This second semester is TOUGH but still doable. . .

Enjoy it while you can in case you wake up one day and realize it got crazy over night! I was flying through my first half and now that we are starting to get to the meat & potatoes-I am getting to the part you always hear about. No sleep, stressed out beyond all belief and working my tail off to make sure I maintain my grades.

But I do have a husband, two very small children and am class president which is taking way more out of me than I thought it would! My free ride is officially over! :chuckle

Seriously though-enjoy it but just make sure you are retaining and understand the information being presented to you!

    Good luck and congratulations!!!

I was just starting to think the same way, maybe nursing school won't take over my life and things won't get crazy, but then all of a sudden I have all this work, right now believe it or not is my downtime, I am taking some time to surf the internet!

I am in my first semester and we just started started clinicals at the hospital (we had spent the 1st few weeks in the nursing home) and things are starting to get overwhelming! I have assessments and checklists due on my patients each week. I have 1-2 tests a week until the end of the semester. Not only do I have to complete assignments but then also practice skills and study theory! So yes, things are starting to pick up, but we are more then half-way through the semester, so it's good! I love it and can't wait to keep going! This is definitely a big challenge but I wouldn't want to work in another field!
