How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Hi, my name is Angela. I'm 23 and am in my first year BScN. I thank you all for being so helpful and supportive. It takes a lot to be a nurse and I give kudos to those that are already in practice. :balloons:

Hi,

I have been accepted into the nursing program at my community college and start in Jan. I do really well at the book learning but I am petrified when it comes to learning all the various skills I am going to need to perform. I have done some work in home health care as an aide, but haven't even taken a blood pressure in twenty years. Does anyone have any advice? Are there any other older nursing students here in the forums?

My other question has to do with organization. How do you organize everything for your classes? I hear it is a real nightmare. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi my name is Samantha and i'm 21. I graduated from high school in 2004 and I have just now decided that I would like to pursue a career in the nursing field. I'm not exactly sure where to start.

Specializes in Skilled.

Hi Sam. First you need to get some of your basic requirements out of the way. Chemistry, Biology with lab and College Algebra. If you have all those, you can dive right into nursing and they should accept you in the program quick. If you do not have those classes from high school taken, enroll in college taking those (required) courses. If you take academic and nursing clinicals together--it will overwhelm you to say the least. I took all my academics first. You will be considered a different major until you are accepted into the program, but will have the needed classes. Depends on your medical background also. A C.N.A. ? Medic? Any medical knowledge?

Feel free to email me.

Robin
