I need to get CPR certified before I start school this fall (I am already adult certified, but don't have peds or infants because I was certified through a nursing home). My school told me what classes were eligible for the requirement but didn't mention anything about where to take the classes.
Where are they generally offered? Do I call my local Red Cross, or somewhere else to get signed up?

Hello, Megsd,
You need to contact your school. Some programs require the BLS/CPR course to be an American Heart Association program. So, call them and they should be able to tell you where to proceed.

You could try your local hospital's resource & learning center.

Ours HAD to be American Heart Association (your's may not, though). Several people had to retake it since they went to Red Cross. I did mine through the Fire Department for $15!!!!!! Not to mention the perks of all the good looking firemen! If you go to the American Heart Association website, you can find classes in your area.

Call your local red cross. Sometimes they offer $5 courses and other discount days. I'm not sure if this includes AED (if you need that too). Any course for healthcare providers will cover what you need though.

I took mine at the local fire department as well. I think it was about 20.00. They teach classes for regular and for healthcare providers once a month.

One other thing to note: the American Heart Association BLS is a two year certification as opposed to the Red Cross certification, which is only good for one year. You may want to take this into consideration when deciding which class you choose.
