I need advice about taking two Science classes at one time.

Hello to all,

I need help. I have registered to take A&P I and Microbiology this fall. Is this a smart move. I work full time from 8a-5p m-f and my classes will be m-th from 6 til 8. Not to mention I have two children (12 & 13) and a husband. Am I putting too much on myself. Don't get me wrong. My family gives me the time to study but am I doing two hard classes at once. Please help!

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it but everyone can handle different things. I am an "A" student and there is no way I could have done my A&P and Micro during the same semester. If you can wait, I'd take one now (along with maybe an easier required class) and the other next semester.

Just my two cents. Good luck with whatever you choose. :kiss

I did not work full-time while going to school LAST semester. I took 5 classes, 19 units...English, Sociology, Nutrition, Physiology, and Micro. I have 3 children and a husband. I still was able to get A's in all of them and keep my 4.0.

I guess you have to ask yourself if you are able to make a commitment. If YOU feel that it is too much, then don't take both of them. I know for a lot of us it is a matter of finishing all pre-reqs in a certain amount of time. Maybe you could take a different, easier class?

Or, try going for a couple of weeks...if it is too difficult for you, then drop one of them before the last day to drop...and take that class again next semester.

I think it all depends on your teachers as to how hard the classes really are...but in the end, it is a decision you have to make. It is do-able, but definately not EASY!! ;)

I really appreciate your feedback so quick. SC RN-I only have A&P I & II, and Micro left before my nursing courses. sagelola-that is wonderful. I wish I could do it like that. Question...are both thoses classes pretty difficult. Probably a lot of memorizing huh!

Thanks so much for replying!!!

I feel your pain! I also work 40+ hours a week, have two young kids (5 and 18 mos), and this fall I'm taking 13 hours of courses. Since my college is a one hour commute each way, I'm several courses online this fall. :)

I took A & P I and A & P II in the same semester.. so if that counts as 2 sciences. :)

I think it's doable - but it won't be easy. As crappy as this might sound to say, I think alot of it depends on your intelligent, commitment and study skills. Have you taken courses full-time while working full-time before?

And of course, what someone else mentioned would work - if I were you, I'd probably sign up for both, and if I realized I couldn't handle it - withdraw from one before the drop date. :)

Good luck!

I did both together and it was fine. Four nights a week, same as you. They are both challenging classes, but not impossible. It helps to have a family willing to work with you. I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I've had to be creative in finding study time. Good luck!

I am taking micro and AP I now and finishing up with them this week. I wished I did not take these two together. I would not recommend doing them together cause there are so much to do and remember. It is hard to focus on both of them. I guess it really all depends on the person and their lives. My life right now is unreal and that might have made it a little bit harder. I wish you lots of luck..

My best advice to you is to do what you think you can handle. I took A & P 1 and Chem. 101 and it was hard for me. I am married and at the time had 3 children. I have to admit though I have been thinking about taking Micro with A & P 2 this semester (I'm already registered for A & P 2). I now have 4 children and will take my courses at night. I just don't know if my dh can handle all 4 of them. But then they'll only be awake for 2 hrs...then they are in bet at 8 p.m. Well, I digress...lol.....just studyy hard and stay organized. If you really want to do it....just believe that you can.

Thanks to you all for your help! Whatever I may decide to do, I will be sure to let you all know. All your comments are so very helpful that's why I love this BB.

I took a&p 2, micro and nutrition in the same semester, but I only work part time, and I got all A's. It was HARD, but doable. I think A&P 2 and micro go very well together. THey are both tough classes, but micro was sooo very interesting. I actually looked forward to my class. But at the end of the day we all gotta do what we feel comfortable doing.

Good Luck!

I took AP, micro, and chem all at the same time, as well as research writing and some other random class. I also played a college sport and had a part time job. It is doable but it depends on what you can handle. I am one of the lucky ones that school comes relatively easy for and I did well, no kids/husband at that time though. If school is difficult for you, it could be a tough load, not to mention that you have a family as well. As others have mentioned, it all depends on what you think will work for you. My only advice if you decide to take both is work hard and get the grade you want, don't slack off until the end. It is definately not worth if it compromises your grades. If you can't do something right the fist time, when do you have time to do it again? So good luck to you, do what feels right for you to be successful and happy.
