I got in to the acclerated BSN!

So I decided to go the ADN route so I would have more time with my family even though it will take an extra year. But the community college won't accept me due to a 23 year old bad biology grade. I'll have to take a CLEP test. Meanwhile I get my acceptance from University's accelerated BSN program! Is this the most ridiculous thing? I can get the higher degree from a four year college but I can't get an associate's degree from a community college. Granted this is a GREAT community college. Of course I want to accept Drexel's offer just because they'll take me but I have to think this through. Ugh.

Congrats Lori! My situation was the same as yours - the CC wouldn't even consider my Masters and only looked at the black marks which flooded my early Bachelor years. As a result of the CCs calculations, I had a horrendous GPA. However, the accelerated program welcomed me with open arms and I was even prioritized because I had the completed degree (rather than going in as a transfer).

To date, I have spoken with the Dean and several students at the school. I am also taking prereqs at the CC. I have much more in common with the people at the accelerated program and other than the cost, I love the program!

Lori.....did you hubbs ask why she gets only 3 hrs of sleep? It could be other issuses not related to nursing school..........most people here have kids and work......you can do it........dont base your decision on one stressed out nursing student....shes been at it for a month.......takes time to adjust your schedule..........ask any student nurse..............;)

Kristin,

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. It is so crazy that they look at the early stuff and not the recent performance. They are so rigid (because they are used to dealing with high school students). I asked her twice are you sure you need my HIGH SCHOOL transcripts. I haven't needed them since I took my first 24 college credits. I guarantee you that if I got an A in honors high school biology 23 years ago I would still not remember any of it. They will let me in if I take a CLEP test so I am cramming for that over the next three weeks. I want to hurry up and take it so I can get on their January waiting list. If I go that route I'll be done 12/05. If I went to 's accelerated I'd be done 10/05. Doesn't seem worth the stress to me. I also think about the fact that I'll have more in common with the accelerated BSN people but after talking with the people in the two accelerated programs in my area I'm not sure I should do it. I know I could but I just finished my BS last December. My family had to fend for themselves during that period (six years starting out part time) and I don't think I should do it again so soon. I am hoping though that there will be some people like me. There is a woman on these boards who I have a lot in common with and she is at the same CC I'm looking at and loves it. In the Spring they have a night program and it may get some "grownups".

Oh and another BIG benefit is that I would like to work in NJ where I live. The CC has clinicals in all the hospitals here in South Jersey where I would want to work. The accelerated programs are in Philly as would be the clinicals.

Happy,

It's a male student nurse from a culture where the women do the parenting so I think the kids thing is not an issue. In this accelerated program they don't let you work. He is at the hospital all day for three days, in class (six classes) two days all day and at night he has to do all his prep and class work. I knew that would be how it went but after thinking about it I realize I don't function that well at night. I also can't study with distractions so I would be much better off if I had the day time when the kids were at school to study. Plus it is much cheaper. Plus if I hate it I haven't spent too much money and I'll probably keep one foot in the door at work. Just in case. :) Once I start and realize I love it (which I'm sure will happen) I'll quit.

THANKS AGAIN YOU GUYS!!!

Lori

Good Luck Lori on what you may decide.

Is getting into 's accelerated program difficult? Also, for the accelerated program, is Sept. the only time when the accelerated program starts?
