How do you PAY for school?????

Published

Ok, here goes. I'm 32 yo and considering going back to school. I've wanted to be in the medical field as long as I can remember, but have finally "hit the wall" in my current job. I'm excited, tense, and somewhat concerned. How on EARTH do you figure out how to live, go to school, and still pay your bills??

I mean, I did it once, but I was poor as hell, didnt have a car payment, and lived in a hellhole. Can I do it with a truck payment, and have somewhere decent to live? and if so, HOW?????

thanks in advance for any help.

Later Ya'll,

Patrick I feel for you. It takes commitment, courage and creativity to keep on going when the going gets tough. When I started my prerequisites, I traveled 50 miles a day by bus, bike and train in a part of the country where driving is the primary mode of transport. Whatever it took. I spent 6 hours just traveling... more time traveling than actual class time. When you really really want something, you find a way to make it happen. I know it sounds hokey but it's true. This is temporary Patrick.

I have that gift of distant vision... :) 50 miles eh? Hmm, impressive!

I will/am paying out of pocket too. I work right now and will be doing pre-req's while still working and putting as much of my salary into savings so that when the day comes that I am accepted into Nursing School (hopefully Fall '05) I can quit my job and at least have money to pay the mortgage every month. I can't have my company give me tuition reimbursement because I work for corporate america right now and if you leave a job within a years time of them paying, you have to pay it all back. So it's coming out of pocket and I do sell alot of things on ebay which helps to supplement the costs of the classes. My husband is very supportive of me doing this too. :)

I dont qualify for any grants or anything since I work full time and make pretty good money.

I fill out the fasfa every year and get student loans that I don't have to pay back....YET. (I get the student loans that you have to pay interest on)

It helps to delay some of the costs, but the loan doesn't pay for everything incurred during a semester but it does help ALOT.

GOOD Luck w/ finding resources to go to school. Where there is a will, there's a way.
