How are other nursing programs graded?

Hi everyone!

I just have a few quick questions about how everyone elses program grades.

This is our grading system by points.

three 50 point tests

one comprehensive 100 point final

two written assignments worth 10 points each

one presentation worth 10 points

one careplan worth 30 points

Is anyone elses math grade averaged in with your tests (ours is not)?

Is anyone elses clinical grade averaged in with your tests (ours is not)?

I was just wondering because we can get kicked out of the program for poor clinical performance, or if we fail the math test, but if we pass them with flying colors it does not matter as far as averaging them in with the other tests.

One more question. For our last year, they are totally revamping the program and making our tests with fill in the blanks and multiple answers like NCLEX has done. Has anyone elses program done this yet, or are planning to?

If that were my program's grading scale then 45% of the people would be gone. Last semester the class average was 81 (I got an 86 ) so I'm sure there were a ton of people in the 75 - 79 range.

Try 60%! That's right, we lose about 60% from begining to end. Honestly, I thought all grading scales were like ours.

WooHoo on your 86% !! That's awesome!

Our grading scale:

A+ 90-100

A 85-89

A- 80-84

B+ 75-79

B 70-74

B- 65-69

C+ 60-64

C 55-59

D 50-54

C is required to pass any nursing course. D is required for any non-nursing course.

I thought I'd peek in to see other grading systems since I thought all nursing cirriculum was graded similarily. I have to get at least 93% just for an A-. I wish I was in a school where it was 91 and up for an A. It's very irritating to get 92% and be considered a B student. Oh well.

Are you serious? What every happened to the 10 point grading scale??

You have an A+ if you receive a 90%?! 50-54 is a D? That grade is an F at my school.

I am second semester this semester we have the following examinations on "Theory";

2 - OB Tests

2 - Peds. Tests

3 - Med/Surg. Tests

Each test is worth 100 pts.

We have a comprehensive Final that counts for 30% of our Final grade.

Our clinical is not graded, it's either pass or fail and really, the only way you would fail it is if you got 3 unsafes or did not make up a missed clinical day.

We also have a math test at the beginning of the semester that you must pass with a 94% or better but that grade does not count towards our final grade.

Our grading scale is like many others here on the board where you must maintain a 75% "C" or above or you fail.

If you fail either the theory or the clinical portion you fail the entire semester and have to repeat it.
