I have a meeting with the Dean again next week in regards to "academic dishonesty" and was advised to go speak with a Student Advocate (appointment next week). What I did was I tried to sign up to the Instructors online textbook resource section for practice questions and study material instead of under the Student section. So after I submitted my registration for approval they called the school like 3 days later to check if I was in deed an instructor and thats when I got a phone call from the dean. And now I have to go in for a hearing next week and may charge me with cheating and academic dishonesty. The thing is I never got access to the site anyway so was no benefit to me. All I wanted was to do practice questions. What do you guys think I should do? How do i prepare my case?

Well, did you even check the student section for your textbook for practice questions? If you did, then tried to access instructor section, I wouldn't say you have a leg to stand on. The catch here is you don't really make it seem like a accident or misunderstanding. You purposefully signed up under the instructor section with the "intent" of getting access, regardless of if you were approved or not. I don't foresee this going well for you, unless you come clean and explain that practice questions were all you were trying to get. Not a leg up above any other student, not inside information about tests or chapters or projects, just the questions.

It just makes me question why you would purposefully go under the instructor section. did you think you were going under the student section and realized you were under instructors after you submitted registration? let us know how it pans out.

i dont have the textbook, i guess i wasn't reading the fine print when i submitted it because it was obviously sent for approval first before access would be granted. I just typed all my info and kept clicking ok, next, next, ok then submitt. I then saw the screen saying that it was sent for approval thats when i went back to the home page and went under the student section.

Good Luck! Sounds like a hard lesson learned! Hopefully since you did not gain access at all they may not be so hard on you. Let us know what happened.

Ray306, I Keep Reading Your Responses To Tazzirns Opinions And It Seems As If Your Main Defense Is The Fact That You Did Not Get Access, And Not The Fact That You Attempted To Enter A Site Not Authorized By The Students Instead You Impersonated A Instructor Which Im Sure Is The Schools Main Point. So If You Want My Opinion Do Not Use Your Rationalization Of Not Getting In As Your Point Of Defense, Instead It Would Look Much Better If You Stepped Up To The Plate And Just Admitted That Yes You Attempted To Do Something That You Knew Was Wrong, Defend The Fact That You Learned A Lessen In Honesty, And Your Willing To Pay The Price For It. They Will Be More Likely To Work With You That Way, Then If They Felt If You Would Not Have Gotten Caught You See Nothing Wrong In What You Did And That You Would Do It Again. In Nursing As Well As Life Policies And Procedures Are Just That. Good Luck, And I Didnt Mean To Come Across As Harsh, Its Just My Opinion.:)

I am just wondering, you said this was a textbook. As far as I know, you can buy instructor edition textbooks. I bought my algebra book through amazon, used, didn't even realized it was an instructors edition, until I opened it. But I guess , pretending to be an instructor, is the difference here, though I am no sure what an on line resource would give you in terms of helping you to cheat?????

I was wondering the same thing, and I was also thinking that if someone was blatently trying to cheat, wouldn't he/she use false info to gain access instead of their real name?
