Hi, everyone!

I am new to this board. My name is Melissa and I live in Alabama and I will be starting nursing school (ADN) this fall, if all goes well. I am finishing up A & P II this semester and will be taking microbiology this summer.

My nursing school application is due May 30 and I don't know how long it will take for notification. Hopefully not too long, LOL!

I am 31 years old and have a husband and two kids, and this is the second time around in college for me. I graduated in '94 with a BSEd in Elementary Education, but always wanted to go into a medical field. I am extremely excited about nursing school!

I looking forward to getting to know you all and getting the support from folks who understand.

To meownsmile

Thanks for the encouragement. Mainly, everyone has been pretty supportive of my decision. As always, there are some "doom-n-gloom" folks, saying I better have been a GREAT student in school, because I will never make it through the courses (this from a friend that is in an LPN program).

And, with reading so many posts on these boards against nursing as a career.................made me wonder a bit. But all in all, I have always beleived life is what we make it, and I hope to make it in this career :)

Hello to all the newbies. My name is Tonya, I am 22 and a single mom to a beautiful four year old daughter. I am in a BSN program and I am proud to say I am now officially a senior. IT has been very hard but it can be done. I have really worked my butt of this semester and my advisor told me it has really paid off because this is the first time ever I have made dean's honor roll and my GPA is a 3.6. My GPA has never been over a 3.1. I have gone through some really tough times in my life and have gotten some professional help and without that help and support of many people and motivation. I truly don't know where I would be today.

It is hard but again it can be done with hard work, motivation, determination and remember be sure to take time out for yourself even if it is just 10-15 minutes a day, you will do so much better because of that.

Welcome Melissa in Alabama!!!:)

Melissa:

Hi. :) I, like Stephany, live in Birmingham. Welcome to the board, um... Though, technically, you got here before I did. :) So welcome to us both, I guess. LOL

Which school will you be attending for your ADN program? I'm a JSCC student myself.

Donna :)

Hey, Donna!

I attend Calhoun Community College. I eventually would like to go to UAH in Huntsville to get my BSN and MSN.

Nice to meet you and everyone else who has so kindly welcomed me!

Welcome Melissa,

Ok, I'm feeling pretty elderly on this thread, as I am 42...lol.. BSN student- 2 years to go and I want a minor in Psych to do Psych Nursing, but we'll see.

I have 2 teenagers at home, (soon to be 13 and soon to be 14) and a 19 yr. old in college. I think it would have been much harder to study with really young kids, so my hats off to those with little ones

Good Luck to you Melissa and everyone, don't let AGE get in the way of your goals, mission and dreams! It's just a number..lol..

Have a Good day All

Hi Melissa,

My name's Alyssa and I'm 28, recently divorced (2 mos ago) a single mother, BSN student and a perpetual stress and anxiety sufferer. :chair: :)

Somehow, I have managed to make it back to school my second time as well. My advice is take it slow when necessary. I started part-time and worked my way to full-time. I'm also working and have a 4.0 ..... It can be done. I just finished my organic/biochemistry class and lab, developmental psych and sociology this past week and may no longer be able to tout that GPA anymore, but know what? That's okay. Given what my life is like, I'm proud that I'm where I am, doing so well and am following my dream. That's where you should be.

As long as you pocket the fact that stress comes with it and budget it into your emotional reserves from the get-go...it doesn't bother you so much. However, during finals, all bets are off and you need to hire a maid for the house or just let it go, sister....just let it go! :chuckle

by the way, I start clinicals this fall and finish my prereqs this summer by taking microbiology too. Good Luck and welcome!
