I'm beginning the nursing program in 2 weeks. I am so excited! :)
I have natural brown hair, but I want to add a bit of color to my hair.
What plan on doing pretty much highlight the bottom of my hair so when I wear a ponytail, there are highlights of (probably dark purple/light blue). When my hair is down the dye should be mostly concealed. I think it would look fantastic on me and be lots of fun.
As my colleagues I am asking for your constructive criticism/advice: Should I change up my hair, or should I not?
I wouldn't do it. If you are going to do it anyway I would check the school's policy on it. My school would only allow natural colors and although shades of red were considered natural I still didn't do it. I just didn't want to be judged or appear unprofessional. I don't think having an unnatural color makes you unprofessional but sadly I think some will.
I used to have bright red highlights in my hair until nursing school. It has been my natural color ever since and I don't plan on having an unnatural color until I am hired as an RN and pass the probation period.

It shouldn't matter what we look like, but sadly in nursing you most certainly are judged by appearances. It's not like a hair stylist, clothing designer, or actor who are free to creatively express themselves through appearance - nursing's cornerstone is Florence Nightingale, no matter how outdated it may be. I guess we should be thankful we don't have to wear hats any more.
