Failing....? Your school's policy?

Hi everyone. I recently graduated school but I had a question. There were a few members of my class who did not pass their finals with the minimum percentage needed to pass. There were 2 that were accused of cheating as well... & There were also a few who did not pass clinicals.... It's obvious that these students were pushed through for whatever reason (went in and got points back, begged, cried, offered $$ IDK).

So my question is what happens at YOUR school

If/when that happens? Is it "sorry, you're done, you have to sit out a term" or are there "extenuating circumstances"? I know a girl that pulled the "single mom" card (BS, lady, 3/4 of us are!! You're just a hot mess who can't prioritize) and that worked for her.

Just doesn't seem fair.

Sorry, just had to vent. :-/

All these pass/fail rates need to indicate what type of nursing program it is. LPN, ASN or BSN? I doubt a BSN program would have a 87% as the required pass rate. Their attrition rate would be like 90% Where is that Harvard nursing school? If there is such a IVY League nursing school

My ADN program requires a 75% or higher in class and clinical is met/not met. You must meet both to advance to the next class, as well as maintain a 2.0 gpa. If you fail 2 classes you are not eligible for readmission into the same program, but you can apply for the LPN program. There is also a 10 question dosage calculation test at the beginning of each semester which you must score 100% on to continue in the program. You have 2 chances to retake the test and if you fail to score 100% after the third attempt you are dismissed from the program.

People have found loopholes through health reasons and learning disabilities. In itself it is not bad to let someone repeat one class an extra time but when someone fails four times but is still allowed to repeat the classes when others cannot, then that is wrong. She went to the end so she didn't withdraw.

Anyway, it usually is miss 2 clinicals and fail. Anything below 77% and it is a failure. If for some reason there are extra points outside of the tests, then the tests need to average a 77% also otherwise you fail. If you fail clinical then you fail lecture.

Generally you are allowed to repeat two classes. One is the first year classes and the 2nd one has to be a 200 or above. If you fail 2 first years, you're out. If you fail 2 200s, you're out. You're allowed to withdraw during the time frame 3 times and then you're out.

Edit: I forgot about the 10 question drug test. They have a 10 question drug test each semester and there is only one retake. Fail that and you're out of the class. I think it counts as a withdraw but I don't know They also have a stupid test each semester that involve questions like MSDS, handwashing, isolation, etc. It doesn't change. I missed that test once and was dropped from the class so I took the class during the same time as another clinical because I was not going to graduate late.
