Ok, so I just passed my trach suctioning demo, but couldn't pass my changing cannula one. Why? Because, since my hands are soo big, I couldn't help but accidentally contaminate my sterile gloves. I said it, did it again, same problem....a finger flopped over the 2nd one's cuff. Instructor stopped me, and said "you need to learn how to get your gloves on...." FAILED! I know the principles of sterility are important, and take full responsibility for it....but, it is my fault that my hands are big and the school does not have gloves big enough for me?

BTW, don't ask me how that worked, cause i did the same thing during suctioning and she never said a word. ARGGGH! Now i have to sign up for another half-hour of demo time just to be done.....period. Ok, I'm going back to bed.

My hands are also too big for the sterile gloves that come in our kits. What I usually do, and what you can ask your instructor if she'll allow, is to unwrap your sterile gloves, take out the ones in the pack, and replace them with non-sterile large-sized gloves. Then wrap it up and put your kit back together. Since we're only pretending for check-offs anyways my instructors don't mind that mine aren't technically "sterile." I'm a thin woman, but I'm 6' tall and somehow I wound up with hands that barely fit in the "large" gloves.

Your finger touched the inside of the cuff on the second glove? That parts going to get contaminated from your hand so why would it count against you. Even if you had the other hand gloved since both gloves are sterile there would be no comtamination. Maybe I'm just not picturing this in my head right.

Don't ask me Tampa.....this instructor is retiring at the end of semester...and not a moment too soon. We all have had demos with here where she's failed people...so I fully expected to fail...oh well. And it's something to do with as you put on the 2nd glove you're supposed to put the fingers under the cuff....I dunno. I just go to school here.

thanking the gods that we do all of our demos in 1st and 2nd semester and haven't had that stress since -- especially since we're now in 4th!! Good heavens -- who needs THAT added worry!!

Good luck next time around locolorenzo!!
