Critical Issue presentation

One of the requirements for my last semester of nursing school is that I give an 1 &1/2 hour presentation on a critical nursing issue. I was wondering if any of you have done a presentation like that or have any topic ideas.

Thanks

Hey Christylee,

I am actually in the midst of working on one right now. Am just in the research stage though. The paper isn't due until the 30th. And my presentation isn't until Aug. But, I am working on Transcultural Nursing. I am researching different ethinic groups, and seeing how their beliefs, religions, can cause some challenges to arise when nurses care for them.

Other subjects that I considered, Nurse-Pt. ratio, how each state has different laws. This one is kind of interesting, I saw a article about it at the library, RN vs BSN, which provides better care and why? Of course these topics you would have to get alot of info for a 1 1/2 presentation. Uhm. Let me think of some more. You could always talk about, caring for a pt that is in police custody. This happens alot with DUI cases.

Thats all I can think of right now, but of course am going to be doing some more research this afternoon so I will let you know if I see anything else. I found what helped me, is I just went to my school library and looked through their journals/magazines and some things did spark interest to write about.

Hope that helped- and good luck! :)

Those are some good ideas! I am just hopeing I can find a topic that I can keep interesting for an hour and a half. Thanks for your ideas.

Christy

The existance/non-existance/creation of the Nursing shortage. This is going to be the biggest critical situation in the Nursing field for quite some time to come.I am writing an article on this subject and could give you many resources.

You have to do an hour and a half presentation??? Alone or in a group? I'm just starting the program in the fall, but the thought of doing something like that freaks me out already!:uhoh21:

That is a wonderfull idea, however someone in my seminar group has already chosen that topic. Other topics my group came up with were drug resistance and communication with clients. I am thinking about doing my presentation on obesity. I emiled my instructor and she thought that would be ok as long as I focused on nursing care....such as bed sizes, room sizes, lifting patients ect. So if any of you have anymore "nursing issues" related to the care of obese clients I would love to hear your ideas.

 the one thing I learned in Nursing School, is take it one day at a time. Dont let the progects freak you out. I think one of the reasons they give these big projects in Nursing school is to see how you handle stress. Good Luck, you will do fine:)

I had to do an hour presentation on an issue, and chose mandatory overtime and the effects on nurses. Subtopics included mandatory overtime's effect on nurse health, effect on patient outcomes, current legislation. Found many good journal articles and could probably have gone another half hour. Good topic, and really gets the other students interested.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha! :)

We have to do lengthy presentations and papers throughout our program, so I'd advise getting used to the possibility but not worrying over it. I'm enrolled in a BSN program, so it may differ for ADN/diploma programs. During our senior year, we have to work in a peer group and write a independent, 8 chapter research paper and present it to our classmates and faculty. I'm figuring by the time I get to my senior year, I'll be a little more confident and competent about nursing theory and research. Plus, why worry now when I can worry later? :D

We're doing our first presentation next week - a 30 minute teaching/learning project in a daycare - teaching 6-12 year olds about fire safety.

Good luck! :)
