I have all of Echo's books, and I couldn't put them down. She even has written a fiction book which is fantastic.

Check out "Complications" by Atul Gawande. A bit deeper than Echo Heron, and it is told by a surgical resident rather than a nurse, but it touches on a lot of the ethical dilemmas that nurses (and doctors alike) face in health care: for instance, that we all have to practice on someone, and those why usually get practiced on are socioeconomicall disadvantaged. I loved this book, even it it wasn't specifically about nursing.

I also recommend Suzanne Gordon's "From Silence to Voice," for those who are interested in promoting the nursing profession among the general public. It's not a perfect book, but it does give some food for thought.

Also ironic for me too....I purchased these last week (and am anxiously awaiting them). I got the first 2 books, Intensive Care and Critical Condition.

I bought them off of Amazon.com's used books section...I got IC for $0.99 and CC for $2.00....plus shipping of course. I belive my total came to $6.00 for both books. They were listed in good condition, so we'll see. That might be my new route for the price....used books.

    I can recommend.....
Body of Knowledge: One Semester of Gross Anatomy, the Gateway to Becoming a Doctor by Steve Giegerich. It's a true story. If you like anatomy, you'll love this book!

Good book and quick read too!

I bought both books on Amazon both cost under a buck! I just got Condition Critical last week so I'm 3/4 finished with it (REALLY good book I can't put it down!). I guess I'm starting backwords since Intensive Care hasn't arrived yet. LOL
