  1. DUHHHH!!! Sorry about that! For some reason I saw A&P rather than BIO/MICRO....have I totally lost it!?!?!? (Probably...shhh!) Anyways, sorry 'bout the post
  2. Honestly, I can't imagine taking BOTH micro/A&P over the summer. I will be taking A&P II this summer (8 weeks) and I'm worried about that. I'm guessing many days will be spent at the park to let my kids play while I study!! I've heard from others in my current A&P I class that Micro is the 'easier' summer course to take. Really, I'm sure it depends on a lot of factors though, esp the instructor!! Best of luck to ya! You can do it!!!!!
  3. Hi Tina - Also taking my pre reqs at Waubonsee....when I spoke to the nursing program administrator (back in April) at WCC, she told me that there was no wait list at the time...as long as you pass the Nelson-Deny test (usually this test is taken around the beginning A&P II) and pass all your pre reqs with a 'C' or better, there should be no problem. She did say they really don't pay much attention to your pre-req grades (like A vs. B or B vs. C) - as long as you pass. I am taking Life Span Psych and Eng 102 this fall semester. Then in January, I'll be taking Mirco and possibly A&P I. I'm hoping for a Fall 2005 entrance into the program. What classes are you taking right now and when you planning on entering the program? Feel free to PM me if you want. Best of luck to you! -Laura
  4. I am married with 2 kids, (5 and 3.5) and I didn't think that I'd ever be able to quit my full time job to go back to school, but I am...(less than 2 weeks to go - whoo hoo!). Somehow things just work out when you need them to. Of course, we had been preparing for the last 9 months for me to quit - paid down bills, etc. I am taking the summer off to spend time with the kids before I dig into classes. It was too hard for me to work full time, take classes and take care of the house, etc. Since I'm still taking pre-req's (5 to go), I am only taking 2 classes per semester starting in fall until I'm done. I should be ready to enter the nursing program fall 2005 or spring 2006, depending on availability. Like everyone else has said, is there ANY WAY possible for you to work even part time, rather than full? Try evalutating your budget and see what can be cut out in an effort to lighten your load a litte so that you are able to drop to part time. Hopefully, things will just fall into place for you and your family. Wish you all the best!
  5. I am pro-choice and agree with word for word. (nicely put jezebel!) Everyone deserves to be cared for without judgement. Isn't that what nurses do? Ducking out of the way now... :chair:
  6. Stitchie - Thanks for the clarification.....my lesson for the day. :)
  7. To all previous posters: Some great advice for us new students!!! Thanks for the support! Have a GREAT weekend!
  8. I agree. I used to work in Radiology (12 years ago) as a unit secretary and if there were ever orders for an IVP, it meant an intravenous pyelogram...which is what we'd schedule the pt. for. You sure IV push isn't something different? I'm not an RN (yet), however, that was my experience when I dealt with nurses from the floors back then.....
  9. I've been doing some research and in the Chicago suburbs most new grads start around $18-20 per hour, then after a your training/evaluation period (anywhere from 12 weeks - 6 months), you get 'bumped' to regualr RN base pay ($21+). As mentioned in the earlier post, within the city limits, you'll find new grads make more money than in the 'burbs'.
  10. Hey there, I had already PM'd you before checking the posts!!! GREAT NEWS...SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! GO CELEBRATE!!!!! :biggringi
  11. Just take a deep breath and be confident in yourself!! I'm sure you'll do great! BTW, didn't you start your new job??? Hope it's going well if you did!!
  12. Hi Amy-- Small world...I am attending Waubonsee as well-- welcome to the board! Do you actually near Sugar Grove? , taking my pre req's...you're further ahead than I am though......I work full time, but will be quitting my job come June to be a SAHM and part time student. I'm 32, married, live in Aurora and have 2 kids.... a 4 1/2 yo daughter and 3 yo son.....I don't actually plan on entering the nursing program until spring 2006. Strange that you couldn't get into the program just cuz you were taking micro....you already took A&PI/II? I don't see what difference that would make to them. I was told as long as your pre-reqs are completed upon entrance of the program then no problems.. Hmmmm......I'll have to double check that one for my own reference. Have you filled out your FAFSA yet? This is the first step in trying to get some type of FA. Here's the link just in case you haven't..... http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/fafsa.jsp I just came across scholarships that Waubonsee offers...maybe you're already aware of these?!?!?!? Here's the link... http://www.waubonsee.edu/current_students/financial_aid/scholarship_info.php Here are some general scholarship search links as well...... http://www.free-4u.com/[/url] http://www.discovernursing.com/scholarship_search.asp http://fastweb.monster.com/ib/webclients-1f/25958 I hope this information is of help to you. I have been casualy searching to get a head start for next year which is when I'll be applying for FA and any scholarships I can get....so I don't really have any advice yet to offer... sorry... Search these message boards...there's a wealth of information just by reading other people's posts. I hope you enjoy your time on the board.... If I can try to help with anything else, just let me know. Keep me posted on any info you come across too -- that would be much appreciated! Best of luck to you!:) :)
  13. The college where I took my CNA ranges from 2 weeks to 12 weeks depending on how many days a week you did classroom & clinicals. 2 months is normal....best of luck to you!:)
  14. Way to go rpbear!!!! :roll :roll :roll Best of luck to nekhismom....not long before the BIG day! So for those of you who were offered jobs (nekhismom, rpbear...) can you provide us with what you think your TOP 3 things to do or NOT to do in an interview are?!?!?! I guess I could just start another thread... Oh well, this will do me just fine
