A question to nursing students about digital references

If you use digital references such as unbound or skyscape....

Does your school have any issue with this?

I would like to save some money by purchasing one of these programs for my older ipod touch (no camera for hippa issues and the like) Rather than lugging hard copies around.

I just worry that if I whip out my ipod that my professors may have an issue with it, or think I am up to no good.

For those who have used digital rather than hard bound references, such as tabers or the davis drug guide....

Any issues?

No problems with it, though it may depend on the teacher. I would ask first. I used Epocrates durring clinical every day I went last semester.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Depends on the instructor/school. Once they realized I wasn't using an iPhone, it was a lot simpler but I did ask permission from the director and my instructors. It was easier than carrying around a thick drug reference book. My instructor realized how fast I could pull up info on Taber's or one of my drug guides. I also put my iPod in airplane mode so there was no chance of accidental internet connection. (my ISP has wifi hotspots in various locations in my area). It was an awesome reference tool in nursing school.
